Everyone loves yum cha. If you don’t, we don’t want to know you #sorrynotsorry. But we won’t lie; there are so many dishes on the menu that it can be totally overwhelming, so we get it if you’ve always been a little too intimidated. And envitably end up ordering the same thing, every time.

So that you can give your tastebuds the life that they deserve, we teamed up with the pros at Jade Temple to let you in on the 7 yum cha dishes you need to try at least once in your life. Believe it or not, life is better than spring rolls.

Steamed BBQ Pork Bun

The absolute classic. If this is your first-time doing yum cha you need to start with this. And honestly, it would be rude to start a yum cha list any other way than with a pork bun. Simple but oh-so delicious, there’s a reason it’s (not-so) secretly our fave. It’s the same dough as a bao filled with the tastiest BBQ pork you can dream of.

BBQ Pork Puff

There’s just something about BBQ pork that gets us ridiculously excited. When it’s wrapped in puff pastry and cooked by the crew at Jade Temple, it’s life changing. Just sayin’… order this and impress everyone you’re dining with.

Prawn Har Gow

Prawn dumplings are never a bad idea. You’ll want one serve of these all to yourself and don’t forget to go wild with the dipping sauce. Prepare to reply confidently the next time someone asks, “what’s that?!” while pointing at the menu.

Stir Fried Rice Noodles With XO Sauce

Anything with XO sauce gets our tick of approval but our love for stir-fried rice noodle with XO sauce is on another level. Topped with bean sprouts and chilli, this dish tastes as good as it smells, and the noodles are just the right amount of light to let the flavour of the sauce takeover.

Crystal Dumpling With Scallop & Spinach

Almost too pretty to eat, crystal dumplings with any kind of stuffing are an absolute must. If we had to pick one, it would be steamed scallop and spinach because who doesn’t love scallops!? No one.

Pan Fried Rice Noodle Roll With Dried Shrimp & Scallion

When you’re sick of having dumplings, order this. Don’t ask questions, just trust us.

Molten Duck Egg Custard Bao

We’re big believers that there’s always room for dessert. And if there’s not, you need to make room because you can’t go to yum cha and not order a molten duck egg custard bao. Think one giant fluffy pillow of goodness filled with melt in your mouth custard. Yes, it really is that good.
