Christchurch, it’s time to meet your brand new local, Child Sister.
By the same team as long-time favourite, Gentle Giant, this stunning eatery is quickly becoming our go-to. Located on Manchester Street, across the street from the Margaret Mahy playground, foodies and caffeine-deprived office workers are flocking to this beautifully restored space.
Step inside the sleek, light-filled interior and you’ll feel as though you’ve been transported to Sydney or Melbourne. Designed by a Sydney-based architect, it’s no wonder it feels different than to the many industrial and homey cafés Christchurch has become known for. Its decor is straight out of an interior design magazine with stark white walls and a soothing muted neutral colour palette. The chairs and benches are comfy and there’s the perfect touch of greenery. It’s the kind of place you’ll want to spend a few hours lingering over their delicious menu.
Speaking of, the menu's filled with all the classics from eggs benedict to shrooms on sourdough and a brioche breakfast sandwich that’s absolutely divine. There’s also fried chicken, which the Gentle Giant team has become known for plus Gochujang shakshuka, consisting of beef and pork meatballs, spinach, mushrooms and feta on a baguette. Oh and the kimchi rice omelette is sure to become a favourite, served with pork belly white rice, leek, scrambled eggs, kewpie and grana padano. The coffee is equally fantastic with beans sourced from Lyttelton Coffee Co.
So, don’t delay, get yourselves to Child Sister ASAP and follow them on Instagram for all the updates.
