Pedro's House Of Lamb

We might be spending a lot more time at home due to our least favourite c-word, but that’s no excuse to stop living out our foodie dreams. During these scary times, we encourage you to continue supporting the small businesses that make up the glorious garden city.

We’re all for keeping ourselves safe through social distancing and staying inside, and thankfully plenty of our Christchurch eateries are now offering at-home delivery or quick pick up options.

So, if you’re missing your weekly (or daily foodie fix) we’re here to help. Get ready to feast on your favourites by ordering yourselves a delicious feed from these local Christchurch gems immediately.

Grizzly Baked Goods: (Sydenham and The Welder) We all need our carb fix during difficult times and Grizzly has taken note. As people steer clear of crowds, Grizzly is staying ahead of the curve and rolled out a shiny new online shop complete with home delivery. Get those sourdough and hot cross buns orders in.

Sweet Soul Patisserie: (CBD) For beautifully crafted (and seasonal) cakes and desserts that are as beautiful as they are delicious, Sweet Soul Patisserie has us covered. Fortunately, their menu is 100% takeaway and they’ll even give you a secure carry case that you can definitely repurpose.

Green Dinner Table: A vegan delivery company in Christchurch (that has recently launched in Wellington and will soon launch in Auckland), Green Dinner Table’s goal is to increase the number of people eating plant based. They’ve recently launched their “Nice Not To Meat You” box which features plant based ingredients and recipes delivered straight to your door so you can cook vegan at home. Their meals are designed around flavour first and foremost to show people they aren’t missing out on flavour when eating plant based. They also use biodegradable packaging where possible and everything else is recyclable.

The Fermentist: (Sydenham) We’re all about the sustainably sourced and plant based menu at The Fermentist. And just because you’re ordering takeaways or home delivery, doesn’t mean you need to forgo health sustainability. The Fermentist understands this better than most and have decided to offer their full menu for takeaway in sustainable packaging. Better yet, you can bring your own.

Gatherings: (Victoria Street) Recreate the intimate Gatherings experience from the comfort of your own home. From Tuesday 24 March, Gatherings is launching their Fish Supper where they offer up a meal for you to take home and eat with your family. The menu will be online and you can pay over the phone and collect around the back of the restaurant. The meals will include a whole fish with sauce, potatoes, sourdough, flatbreads, seasonal vegetables and they’ll switch it up every week. It’s enough to feed four and will set you back just $45 for the whole meal, $25 if you’re wanting just the fish. Bargain.

Grater Goods (Sydenham): Everyone’s favourite vegan deli now has an online shop with their entire range of deli goods, pantry items, treats with more goods to come. They will be delivering once a week on Tuesdays, leaving boxes on doorsteps. Pick up is also available from Grater Goods from Wednesday through Sunday and they can leave boxes at the entrance upon request.

5th Street: (Sydenham) When we’re craving something a bit special, 5th Street is our go-to for incredible local eats and they’ve just launched a full takeaway menu that includes their Southern fried chicken, caramelised merino lamb ribs and fried cauliflower.

Sister Kong: (Victoria) Sister Kong now has two dine at home options. They’re selling both their frozen, ready to steam, boil or fry at home plus their new menu (featuring Dan Dan noodles and delicious dumplings) is now available for takeaway via pick up or delivery on Uber Eats.

Gelato & Tea: (Riverside Market) If you’re wanting to stock up on gelato (who isn’t?) Riverside Market favourites, Gelato & Tea are selling two litre tubs for takeaway. Choose from flavours like matcha, peach sorbet and crowd favourite, Black Hawaii and you’ll be sorted for the next few weeks.

Mexicanos (Victoria Street): We all need our Mexican foodie fix and Mexicanos is guac goals. Lucky for us, their menu is available on UberEats, so you can feast on their tacos and quesadillas to your heart’s content. We recommend the fish tacos.

Eightgrains & Sushi Soldier (CBD) Is there anything more comforting than dumplings, ramen and tasty bao buns? Both Eightgrains and Sushi Soldier are available via UberEats, so get your fix without leaving your house.

Pedro’s House of Lamb: With two locations, Pedro’s has long been our go-to when we can’t be bothered whipping up a feast. Eat like a king with their whole lamb shoulder, which is slow baked to perfection with rosemary and garlic and served with a side of scalloped potatoes.

Kum Pun Thai: With an excellent takeaway menu featuring authentic Thai flavours, Kum Pun Thai is an excellent option when you’re craving spring rolls, Pad Thai or a Massaman Curry.

Give Me Bread is a local option for home delivery with over 100 restaurants to choose from. Simply enter in your home address and select from heaps of options. You can order pierogies from The Pierogi Joint, dumplings from Pot Sticker Dumpling Bar, crepes from Maison des Crepes and a whole lot more.

The Sichuan Kitchen: (CBD) We’re all about those numbing Sichuan flavours at the moment and Boxed Quarter’s The Sichuan Kitchen delivers (in more ways than one). Their Sichuan style dumplings pack a serious punch as do their Dan Dan noodles.

Salut Salut Vino & Tapas: (The Welder): Good news, you can now enjoy your favourite Spanish tapas and vino at home. The team at Salut Salut has designed a heat and eat menu which includes their epic meatballs.

We'll keep adding to this list as more eateries offer delivery and take away but in the meantime, why not sit back, relax, and delve into the 15 best movies on Netflix NZ at the moment.
