Hello, Alert Level 3. We’re beyond stoked to reach this milestone and welcome takeaways into our lives. While brunch with your bestie is off the cards, you can still enjoy some of your favourite Hamilton eateries from the comfort of your living room.
To help you form your takeaway hit list, we’ve rounded up what’s on offer (ordered alphabetically). Show some love for the city’s dynamic hospo scene and support these local joints.
Banh Mi Caphe (CBD)—There’s nothing more comforting than a bowl of fragrant pho, right? Banh Mi Caphe is here for us with their virtual restaurant offering pick-up and delivery. Dishes include chicken curry, braised pork belly, rice paper rolls, bánh mì, and—of course—pho noodle soup in a broth bursting with warming flavours of cinnamon, clove and star anise. Save room for dessert because there are spiced apple wontons on offer.
Camarosa (Newstead)—The deliciousness of Camarosa is back. They’ve put together both a lunch and dinner menu that can be ordered online and picked up from the Newstead eatery. Lunch includes eggs bene, buckwheat hotcakes, and crispy fried chicken. For dinner, they’ve got fettuccine with creamy mushroom garlic, oregano-brined chicken, and pork belly served with a Thai buckwheat noodle salad. Sign us up.
Cinnamon (Pukete)—At last, Pukete locals can get their caffeine fix from neighbourhood cafe Cinnamon. Their initial takeaway menu includes eggs bene (it’s been a hot minute), smoked fish pie, and chicken mushroom risotto. You can also get a sweet treat in the form of choc berry brownie, cinnamon swirls, and an unmissable caramel oatie. Call to order and pick up from the cafe—they’ve painted circles outside for you to stand in while you safely wait.
Duck Island—Proving that not all heroes wear capes, Duck Island is operating their very own ice cream delivery. On Tuesdays and Fridays, Hamiltonians can get pints of creamy goodness delivered to their front doorstep. Choose from flavours including peppermint slice, peanut butter caramel cookie, choc cherry chunk, and roasted white chocolate miso (our favourite). To secure your spot, orders must be made online by 7pm the night before.
Gothenburg (CBD)—What a relief we don’t have to go without Gothenburg’s famed tapas any longer. The restaurant has curated a special takeaway menu with the likes of slow-braised pork belly, crispy mushroom arancini, sweet potato gnocchi, and crayfish rolls sauteed with garlic butter. Check out their Facebook page for the ins and outs of picking up your order.
