Although times are tough right now, our local cafes and restaurants are working hard to make sure we can get our fill of their goods, making our lives easy by offering new delivery and takeaway services.
Level three rules and regulations, although super-relaxed compared to level four, is still going to be tough for small businesses—especially hospo whose livelihoods largely rely on people coming through the doors. They can’t work from home, so let’s show them as much love as we can and make the most of their new and innovative ways of getting their amazing food to us.
Below is a list of local Welly businesses who are offering delivery or takeaway services, and our exhaustive list is just the tip of the iceberg. If you aren't on the food ordering app Regulr, they're offering all new users a $10 credit for Mevo's rent-a-cars to make it easier for you pick up your orders and maintain your social distance. Egmont Street Eatery (Cuba St Area)—Egmont Street Eatery will be offering their new Egmont St @ Home menu, delivering tasty soups, salads and desserts to homes around the Wellington region. Delivery is available from Tuesday through Sunday from 9am—9pm and can be ordered through delivereasy.co.nz. Coffee and pickup orders can be made on the Regulr app.
The Larder (Miramar)— Also available from Tuesday through Sunday (gotta get a day off in at some point!), The Larder are offering click and collect. This almighty offering brings you everything from coffee, bread, pastry to their extensive a la carte menu to devour in the comfort of your own home. As we head into colder months, why not order in one of their cold-pressed juices to keep yourself healthy and improve your immunity.
Capitol Restaurant (Mount Vic)—Local favourite and family owned restaurant, Capitol have created a special takeaway-focused menu. Call through to the restaurant to place your order and choose a delivery slot, but make sure you do so before 4pm, so as not to miss out on their sumptuous modern European cuisine, even when you have to be at home.
Olive (Cuba Street)—Olive on Cuba will also be offering a delicious takeaway and delivery offering to get us through this weird time. Known for their delicious New Zealand modern cuisine, we are glad we won’t have to go without Olive while we spend time at home. Slow cooked meals, Soups, salads and snacks are on offer, and you can nab those for yourselves by placing an order on their website.
Oikos Hellenic Cuisine (Miramar)—This Greek eatery in Miramar is now offering a superb takeaway option, coined 'Hit and Run'. With an extensive menu of incredible Oikos fare, preorders can be done on their website if you can make it on the site before 5pm. If you're reading this desperate for souvlaki (or anything on their menu, really) but out of time, give the guys a call (post 5pm, just to clarify) and they'll do their best to squeeze your order in.
Dragonfly (Courtney Place)—Upscale Asian dining lounge Dragonfly are offering pickup or delivery if you are lucky enough to live within 10 minutes of their joint. Choose from their amazing menu and then head down for an easy pick up of their bao buns, crispy chicken, tasty salads and so much more. If you are outside of their delivery zone, never fear, as you can find them on Delivereasy or Uber Eats. It has never been simpler to try delicious menus like this, we love it!
Salty Pidgin (Brooklyn)—Brooklyn's favourite local eatery is also now offering delivery of their mouth-watering pides and snacks—straight to your door. We have always been fans of the Smoked fish pide and hoping we will see its return soon. They've got daily specials on the go, so make sure you check out their social media to stay in the know. Call or email to place your order, and you'll need to pay by a contactless method. Delivery is free if you spend over $50, otherwise $10 delivery is totally reasonable too.
Nikau (CBD)—Local’s fave, café Nikau are offering a takeaway brunch service that can be ordered online, Monday to Friday, 9am to 2pm. What a relief we don’t have go without the world-famous Nikau cheese scones. Even better is the heat and eat meals on offer, which will make life a whole lot easier when you're staring down the barrell of another baked bean dinner. How about that!
Charley Noble (CBD)—Charley Noble have a full menu takeaway offering now available, from charcuterie starters, to their famous cauliflower steak and grilled meats. Charley Noble are hitting the ground running with delivery and click and collect service. Get the goods by ordering online, or place your order over the phone if talking on the phone doesn't turn you into a nervous wreck.
Pickle and Pie (Cuba St Area)—There's nothing more comforting than a delicious homemade pie, right? Pickle and Pie deli are here for us in our time of need. Some of their favourties are available for delivery via Delivereasy, although your best bet is to check out click and collect on their website which has all the bells, whistles and trimmings. Is a family pie acceptable for one? We think so!
Many of our favourite independent Wellington eateries are now offering vouchers, so we can support them now and visit them when this Covid-19 business is over. The Bolton Hotel have set up a wonderful website, Indie Wellington, pulling this together into one place. Be sure to check it out and buy some eatery gift vouchers for loved ones or for yourself for when the physical distancing is well and truly done with.
This pandemic has proven how resourceful Kiwis can be in times of adversity, and amongst all the food delivery services, Pandemic Pack is a wonderful way you can further support Wellington businesses. An initiative for Wellingtonians, by Wellingtonians, a collection of local eateries, food shops and suppliers have banded together to offer a delivery service where you can get everything you need to make their food at your home. The offering is super-diverse with Lashings, Wooden Spoon, Grace Patisserie, Soul Shack, La Boca Loca (and much, much more!) being a few of the spots on board. Its a great way to skip the queues to get your favourite treats—all you need is a bit of elbow grease. Bon appetit.

Auckland's My Nourish Kitchen has just arrived in the capital and is here to bring a bit of fine-dining to your kitchen.
