We might be a little biased given our office is in the area, but we reckon Subiaco is definitely having a moment. There's been a string of new Subiaco bars and restaurants, plus some cracking new coffee shops and cafes that are helping bring this inner city burb back to life.
Whether you're chasing a beautiful brunch spot or a quick coffee to go, Subiaco has the answer.
Here are our pick of the best cafes in Subiaco.
Editor's Pick: Community Coffee Co
It's hard to talk Subi coffee, without mentioning Community. It's long been our go-to coffee spot whenever we're in the office, and with the new food truck they've got parked up outside, we're finding ourselves there more and more often. That egg sando is a life-changing experience.
Yours Truly
Taking over what was once an old Vietnamese lunch deli, Yours Truly has brought good coffee and a slick aesthetic to an underrepresented end of Subiaco. You'll find plenty of local office workers gasbagging in the parklet out front over their iced oat lattes. For us though, it's the stunning bagel display that does it.
Obi Coffee
A cool new cafe from a former Micrology crew member is coming to Subiaco called Obi Coffee. While they're still renovating the full space, they've popped up with a temporary coffee shop sporting a small but mighty selection of grab and go bites like Portuguese tarts from Cafe Pastel and cheesy toasties from Toastface Grillah alongside quality Micrology Coffee roasts.
Boucla
If Boucla is still on your hit list, you need to get there now. This buzzy, little Middle Eastern-inspired cafe is maxed out on cosy vibes, killer shakshuka and great coffee. The hardest part is choosing whether to grab a sweet or savoury souffra for the ride home.
Blacklist Coffee
Things are done a little differently here. While you can grab your normal takeaway order, Blacklist invites customers to dine in and taste a range of rare blends and high-end single origins. It's a must-try for the serious coffee drinkers among us.
Layers
French pastries are the name of the game at Layers, so prepare to go into a croissant-induced coma. They’re slinging plenty of different varieties alongside beautiful premade baguettes, good coffee and some of Perth's best pies.
Bark
While Bark is technically more of a bar than cafe, we had to throw it in because time and time again this community fave has delivered on both the coffee and lunch front. Order a coffee and one of the famous conti rolls, chicken schnitty sandwiches or halloumi and hot chip wraps and we guarantee you'll be back.
Be Free Organics
The name should be enough to tell you that this spot is all about organic, wholesome and healthy bites. From nutritious smoothies and acai bowls to jackfruit toasties and nourish plates topped with seasonal veg, we guarantee your tummy will thank you for this meal. Plus, with substantial bulk food and frozen meal sections, you can keep the feel-good eats happening at home too.
Architect And Heroes
There’s a reason Architects and Heroes has earned its cult status within the coffee geek world. There’s the regular ol’ lattes as well as cold brew, siphon and steampunk. If you want to step outside your coffee comfort zone, let it be here.
Louis Baxters
Louis Baxters is a staple on the Subiaco coffee-lovers itinerary for its great, reliable coffee, tasty treats and chilled-out vibes. It’s also dog-friendly if you plan on bringing your pooch.
Mimosa
Mimosa is the newest opening from the power duo behind Tiisch, Sven Bartelt and Danielle Waller. These guys are responsible for starting the bottomless brunch trend that kicked off here in 2018 so no surprise to see they're offering bottomless brunch and lunch every damn day at Mimosa, alongside an all-day brunch menu featuring dishes like brunch gnocchi, banana pancakes, chilli scrambled eggs and wagyu beef burgers.
1982 Food + Coffee
Set in a charming character space with timber floors and stained glass windows, 1982 Food + Coffee is an absolute Subi gem. The crew here are dishing up top-notch coffees, flavoured lattes, delicious takeaway bagels and toasties, plus, stunning classics and Asian-inspired brunch dishes that taste even better than they look. Unagi on toast, anyone?
Honey Beanz
Honey Beanz dishes out superb coffee and the food menu is also just as good. We love the Korean bim bim bap burger and all the usual suspects to wash down with your morning cappuccino.
Pitcher And Iron
Repeat after me: Coffee and waffles. Yes to the coffee and heck yes to the waffles. Nutella, apple crumble, speculoos—choosing your coffee is going to be the easy part here. Please bring a friend or three and pitch in to share.
