Helloooooo weekend! It’s the first official weekend of spring and there are lots of things to do in Sydney that involve getting out and about. We’ve got music, art, coffee, running and, of course, FOOD. Alright weekend, we’re ready for you!

Thursday 3rd

Furnace and the Fundamentals at Soda Factory

Gourmet cover band Furnace and the Fundamentals are going to put some fun into your weekend, belting out the songs you love with an edge you’ll love. Get Rolling In The Deep buckets of fried chicken at The Soda Factory as the band cover Adele, The Black Keys, Queen, The Beatles, and a tonne of other artists in their encyclopedic repertoire. With his chameleonic voice, lead vocalist Furnace will fire up your weekend FO’ FREE.

Matched Speed Dating at the ArtHouse

If you’re feelin’ lonely, shake it off, because speed dating is coming to shake up your weekend! Centred on smart phone app CitySwoon, your profile and a dating game will serve as both an ice-breaker and match-maker on the night. Promising a totally-not-awkward, fun-on-a-bun night (read: tasty snacks and unlimited champagne, wine, and beer will be supplied), meet a few dates, and then chat up any really, really ridiculously good-looking people you spot in the crowd.

Friday 4th

CURVY Conference

No weekend should be free of girl power, and this weekend, Curvy: an institution for the empowerment and promotion of inspiring female leaders, has got you covered. They’re hosting a two-day conference of panel discussions led by Kate Hurst, Director of Hurst & Co, Naomi Shepherd (Facebook & Instagram Australia), Katie Rigg-Smith (CEO of Mindshare), Jess Scully (Founding Director and Curator of Vivid Sydney), Elle Glass (Managing Editor of RUSSH Magazine) and many other women whose wisdom will Spice Up Your Life.

The Coffee Experience

Get coffee sweats of excitement as you drink all the free coffee you can, get an eyeful of new coffee tech, and catch coffee-making competitions at The Coffee Experience this weekend. Pitting Australia’s leading coffee chains against each other in Latte Art, Seasonal Beverage, and Service Time rounds, pick your faves in The Royal Hall of Industries, which will be a mecca for the cawfee enthusiast in all of us this weekend.

Saturday 5th

Alliance Française Classic Film Festival

Forget the popcorn and bring your baguettes and fromage to the cinema this weekend as you crack into the Alliance Francaise Film Festival. Celebrating the unforgettable Catherine Deneuve and her contribution to French cinema, you can get a little bit fancy as you enjoy her classique film Une Rétrospective (don’t worry, there will be subtitles) under the wing of Sydney Morning Herald film buff, Garry Maddox.

The Cherry Blossom ladies lunch at Sake

Skip on down to Saké in The Rocks and Double Bay to blossom like a cherry this cherry blossom season as you enjoy a beautifying lunch. Get the scoop on beauty care secrets from SKII Beauty Expert and Editor of Gritty Pretty, Eleanor Pendleton while you sip on your glass of Veuve Clicquot Rose. Learn how to get back the skin you had as a baby in a not-scary way with Eleanor’s tricks of the trade and your complimentary gift from SKII. Get your tickets here

Sunday 6th

Barangaroo Welcome Celebration

Barangaroo Reserve, the six-hectare Harbour Foreshore park in the heart of Sydney will open its gates to the public for the first time in over a hundred years for some happy-good-time celebrations. We recommend you take part in the Stone Opening Ceremony, which will honour the Indigenous custodians of the land, the Gadigal people, and will feature a Welcome Walk from Dawes Point to Barangaroo for its opening ceremony. Jump into the Giant Picnic, which will honour the Indigenous history of Barangaroo and may or may not feature giant picnic food. Get to know the rich history of this significant landmark and celebrate with live music and dance into the evening.

Handmade Invitations with Sydney Design

Are you getting married? Having a party? A birthday? A pizza party? Find a reason to celebrate this weekend and bustle on down to Leichhardt to create some handcrafted invitations. Learn the tricks of the trade and save some dollas as you learn basic design principles using a variety of techniques and tools like screenprinting and embellishing with washi tape. All materials are supplied, but if you want to bring any special personal touches, you are encouraged to do so. Fish out your bag of cat hair from under your bed and start planning the greatest cat party Sydney has ever seen. We will wait for our invite in the mail.

Monday 7th

Manic Mondays at Sephora

Sephora are coming to primp your Mondays by introducing their Manic Mondays freebie ritual! Free services will include hair straightening, soft wave-making, volumising (we would like perms for an extra enthusiastic Monday ‘do), AND free mini-manicures by Marc Jacobs and FormulaX. Make sure you get your freshly-manicured hands on a card that guarantees you can make the most of these free offers on Mondays to come, as well as 10% discount cards, and FREE chocolate by Via Del Corso. Monday? More like Mon-yay!

Holland's Notorious Schorem Barbers Tour Down Under

Super mega famous and influential barbers Leen and Bertus aka SCHOREM BARBERS are coming to Sydney for the first time to share their secrets and inspire us all to get rockabilly quiffs and hot towel straight razor shaves. Shipping over straight from Rotterdam, Holland, the boys who have been barbering since they were 14 years old will perform live hair shows and teach us the ways of the disappearing art of the forever cool rock ‘n’ roll approach to follicular maintenance (we are totally rock ‘n’ roll, evidently). Don’t miss the free The Lord Gladstone Barber Battle! A battle with scissors and razors? We are thinking Sweeney Todd meets Grease meets Edward Scissorhands. More info here.

Tuesday 8th

Cafe Pacifico Back for one night only at Salt Meats Cheese

Sydney institution and home of tequila, Cafe Pacifico is back for one night only at Salt Meats Cheese, Alexandria. Ex-head of Café Pacifico Phil Bayly will be reuniting his old team and bringing along some supa stars of the bartending scene, like Brett Harris from Button Bar, James McLay from Hugos, Natalie Ng from Sweet Chili, and Ryan Gardam from HMH. Get a drink that will set your working week ablaze and pair it with blazing wood-fired Mexican pizzas and nachos. Muy delicioso! Sign up here.

Wednesday 9th

Noble Spirits Fair Trade Masterclass

Take a moment and reflect on where the booze we all enjoy has come from and what sort of industry we are supporting this Wise Wednesday. The peeps at FAIR Spirits and Noble Spirits are running a masterclass that will get you thinking about ethical alcohol and how you can make more sustainable drinking choices. Sample their products, and get a grip on what the future of alcohol looks like in supporting better working conditions, local sustainability, and fair trade for farmers in developing countries. Get some fresh perspective on the booze you choose.
