This intricate art and knowledge of the Japanese culture can clearly be seen in the contemporary offering at Northbridge restaurant, Bonsai. Patrons are seen as part of the Bonsai family as each guest is treated to a beautiful and authentic Japanese experience. They offer a range of share plates and a vast sushi selection with each dish being served as soon as it has been freshly prepared by the chef. Newbie Perth bar Jack Rabbit Slim's in Northbridge has combined all our favourite things; live music, a bar and a late night diner. Spiked milkshakes and some banging fries and sauce combos feature on the diner menu, while next door you can battle your friends in the retro arcade games room. Once you’re all hyped up you can head over to the D-floor and shake your booty to some live music. When you need a breather you can knock back a few of Jack Rabbit Slim's signature flavoured tequila shots and kick back on a couch upstairs.

Frisk. Small Bar
When gin o’clock rolls around head to Perth bar, Frisk. Small Bar in Northbridge. While it's only petite, Frisk stock an epic amount of gin; we’re convinced they must be wizards to fit it all in! Cocktails, beer, wine and other spirits also feature here, along with some cutesy jars of food to keep your appetite satiated.
Padthai Cafe
Now we all know that the little Padthai Cafe in Joondanna is one of our fave cheap eats in Perth and we just can't stop raving about it. The oddly satisfying modern yet homey interior just adds to that warm feeling that everyone wants from a quality restaurant. A picture based menu will assist those who are Thai newbies but lets be honest... you can't go past the Pad Thai and Satay. Get in before it surges in popularity!
The Heritage
True to its name, Perth restaurant The Heritage makes the most of its roots with its dazzling refurb of the iconic Royal Insurance building, complete with Italian marble floors, dramatic high ceilings and large windows overlooking Brookfield Place. Most of the food, which includes the likes of duck Parfait and Gruyere cheese Soufflé, is inspired by the cafe fare of Europe, but there are other dishes, like the brioche fairy bread, that are well and truly Australian, and we love it.
The Conservatory Rooftop Bar
When you want a cocktail badly, the narrow staircase to The Conservatory Rooftop Bar, feels akin to climbing Jacob’s Ladder – but the glute workout is well worth it. Once you reach the top, you are met with a slick neon-illuminated bar fit out and a killer view of Perth city. It’s a damn fine place to enjoy a Summer Fling (one of their cocktails - and double entendre).
Sushia Izakaya
After a warm reception from the Sydney crowd, Sushia Izakaya has found its way to Brookfield Place, bringing with it some of the best Japanese fine dining around. It hits all the marks as far as the foodie crowd is concerned; all the architectural beauty you’d expect of a fine dining restaurant, expertly executed Japanese fare and an impressive drink menu that includes Japanese beer and sake. You’ll be looking for the nearest Karaoke joint as soon as you exit this fine Perth Japanese restaurant.
Varsity Bar
In its short life, American college themed Perth sports bar Varsity has already become a student hot spot. All about good food and good times in a relaxed environment, Varsity Bar is located within the Broadway Fair Shopping Centre and just a short walk from The University of WA. Varsity Bar dishes out American beers and eats including cheeseburgers, chilli cheese fries and hot wings, while sports lovers can get their fill with American sports on TV every day of the week. What's not to love?
Standing Room Only
Retro-chic specialty coffee bar, Standing Room Only, is a happy addition to Piccadilly Arcade in the Perth CBD. Here, some very serious baristas steam, brew, grind and filter for CBD coffeephiles. Try a cold drip or batch brew of one of their guest coffee beans. Coffee snobs rejoice!
Slurp Soup & Salad Bar
Following the trend of an all-encompassing business name, Slurp Soup and Salad Bar provides just that to the Perth CBD peeps. This popular lunch spot in Cloisters Arcade has a loyal following who queue up each day to get their mits on the likes of Chicken Veloute soup, served in a sourdough bread bowl or with a stick of perfectly toasted ham and cheese brioche. And if you are into health fads, you can get your daily dose of bone broth here too. Boom.
Ribs & Burgers
The perfect place to get the meat sweats on, Ribs & Burgers focuses on its strengths by serving up what it does best – ribs and burgers! Every element of their seemingly simple fare is done with love; from the burger bun, made out of organic flour and toasted to a perfect golden brown, to the 8 hour slow cooked ribs and grass fed beef patties. Show this fine meat fare the respect it deserves by enjoying it with a side of onion rings.
Panache
This Perth cafe looks after the cholesterol of the overworked St Georges Terrace employees with its healthy offerings; think “superfood” salads, gluten-free quiches and Soy Matcha Lattes. The food menu was created with the aim of providing fresh, nutritious and wholesome eats to the locals and Perth workers are loving it. Get to Panache before the lunch rush hits - this place is popular!
Marumo
It may take a few months to get a booking at Marumo in Nedlands, but be patient and you'll be treated to some of the best Japanese in Perth. Marumo only offers Omakase on their menu - a 7-course dining experience (which can take up to 3 hours) selected by Chef Mo. The creative and innovative dishes are selected on a seasonal basis - think the most delicious squid, sashimi, gyoza, and sushi you've ever had the pleasure of getting your chops around. At $60 per head, Marumo is also ridiculously good value. Get in quick, this little gem is getting more popular by the day.
Elixir Coffee Specialists
A small batch coffee roaster tucked behind Chelsea Pizza in Nedlands, Elixir Coffee Specialists are serious about good coffee. All the coffee here is made from in-house roasted beans and great care is made to perfect the perfect brew. The minimalist decor might give off an industrial, indie vibe but there's no pretentious coffee snobbery here - just a bunch of guys who live and breathe coffee. The little kitchen also dishes out some cracking brekky and lunch options.
Noodle Forum
It’s hard to walk by Noodle Forum in Perth’s CBD, not just because of the delicious scent of fresh noodles wafting from the interior, but because there is a Japanese man in the window who appears to be playing see-saw on a large piece of bamboo. It’s giggle-inducing to watch but the end result is zhu sheng mian - bamboo pole noodles, which melt in your mouth. It’s worth patiently lining up for these labour-intensive creations from Chef Enrich Wong.
Floral State
Perth florist Floral State make a mean bouquet using only the freshest seasonal blooms. Their posy jars are cute as pie but if that’s not enough, you can also get a medium and large bouquet or jar arrangement. These guys know a good flower arrangement so you can sit back while they do the hard work. Easy peasy!
Max + Sons
From the peeps behind Mo Espresso, comes this little ripper of a coffee shop. Max + Sons Perth has the formula down to please the spoilt-for-choice 140 crowd; Top Dup doughnuts, a mean selection of sammies, a hip and cheerful fit-out and, of course, Five Senses Coffee filtering through their countertop Synesso.
Boubar
Boubar is a relaxed, rustic and cool neighbourhood Perth cafe and bar on trendy Hampden Road in Nedlands. The urban décor and graffiti style art (it's Stormie Mills) on the exposed brick walls is the perfect setting to settle in with one of their exceptional brews. Pop in for a coffee or stay for a meal, the crew at Boubar have got the goods to make your day. If you don't have time to sit down, the team here donate 10 cents from every takeaway coffee purchased to the Perth Children's Hospital Foundation, so you can feel good while getting your caffeine fix.
Little SUP
Perth cafe Little SUP is your ultimate surfy hangout. This surfboard clad Cottesloe cafe is the perfect spot to drag your sandy feet in for a coffee after your morning surf. Choose from a selection of homemade pastries and muffins or delicious coffee made with a smile. Little SUP is open from 6am so good for all the early birds out there.
William Topp
Old and new come out to play at William Topp in Perth. Stocked up with finds from the 70s and 80s, as well as new wares sourced from Italy and Scandinavia, this colourful little store will warm your heart. On top of their lovely vintage wares and European items William Topp also stock furniture, homewares and jewellery which is made and designed in Australia.
Beau Est Mien
Perth Creative business Beau Est Mien (meaning ‘beautiful is mine’), established by Magali Dincher, comprises a studio and store offering limited edition artwork, stationery and printmaking workshops. Magali designs and hand-makes quirky and detailed prints on paper and fabric with watercolour, using traditional printmaking techniques such as hand-cut linotype, calligraphy, etching and screen printing. The result is a range of greeting cards, colouring books, wrapping papers and prints on stone available in store and stocked around Australia.
Coco & Lola
Coco & Lola in Nedlands is the go-to spot for all the pretty get-up in Perth. Beautifully colour coordinated and stocked to the brim with brands from Australia and overseas, it's hard to leave Coco & Lola empty handed. If you're in need of bridesmaid dresses, wedding attire or gereral wears to kick around in day-by-day, this is your place.
Kinky Swell
Kinky Swell is tucked away on Brighton Road in Scarborough, and from the outside looks fairly unassuming. But looks can be deceiving, team, because as soon as you cast your eyes over this menu, you’ll know you’re in for a ride. And when you start seeing other people’s breakfast come out of the kitchen, you might just intercept the waiter on his way to their table so you can demolish it yourself.

From cool and casual looks to crisp work wear and playful statement pieces, Perth women’s fashion boutique Shop 28 has got you covered. The owners of this North Perth boutique set out to establish a shop where you can walk in and feel at home, and be encouraged to express your individuality through a love of prints, fabrics and styles. They offer an eclectic mix of up-and-coming and well-known Australian designers and overseas favourites, including Manning Cartel, Alice McCall, Winter Kate and House of Harlow.
Future Shelter
Husband and wife team Jane King (designer) and Adam Coffey (mechanical engineer) are the masterminds behind home and giftware store Future Shelter. The combined workshop and retail space on Angove Street is home to a small team of designers and makers, showcasing locally inspired and locally made items. The workshop has equipment for screen printing, industrial sewing, laser cutting, woodwork, and ceramic making, resulting in zesty and meticulously crafted offerings such as lampshades, coasters, wall decals, clothing, jewellery and stationery.

Lapa Brazilian Restaurant
For a serious case of the meat sweats head to Perth Brazilian Restaurant, Lapa Brazilian Barbecue. Named after one of the most famous boroughs of Rio de Janeiro, this Subi joint offers up 16 different cuts of meat and an endless feast option which will see your stomach through until dinnertime...tomorrow. For those not up to the meaty challenge, there’s also an a la carte menu.

Once an old bus garage, North Fremantle cafe Propeller has been transformed into one of the most colourful and vibrant eateries going around. Super cool Freo cafe Ootong & Lincoln oozes laid-back, retro vibes. Two enormous rainbow zebras meet you when you enter the South Terrace space, which is full of draped light globes, antiques and 50’s style diner chairs. Not to be outdone by the decor, the menu boasts some of Perth's best brunch fare - all made on site and all using locally sourced ingredients.

For the best of the best clothing, shoes, bags and accessories, head to the iconic Billie & Rose on Beaufort Street, Mount Lawley. You’ll find super cool, on-trend men’s and women’s pieces characterised by bold prints, clever colours and sleek shapes, alongside accessories from established and up-and-coming designers. Mrs Brown Bar
North Fremantle bar Mrs Brown is an intimate, cosy and relaxed haunt, perfect for a catch-up drink with friends. Housed in an old Victorian terrace, snuggle up to the fire in winter or lap up the sunshine in the courtyard over summer. With a focus on wine, the wine list, fittingly, is spot on but they also have plenty of interesting beers and ciders on offer. Get stuck into one of Mrs Brown's cheese platters or cure your hunger with a Flipside burger from next door. That's Sunday arvo sorted then.

Little Shop Of Plenty
Little Shop of Plenty is a welcome addition to the vegetarian and vegan scene in Maylands. With superfoods galore, the team is passionate about promoting a healthy way of life, and they firmly believe you don’t have to starve in doing so. Everything they churn out is gluten, dairy and cane sugar free, and there's a pantry on-site that's ripe for a little post-meal perusing (you'll definitely want to pick up some of Plenty's own granola). Now open two nights a week, with a bevvy licence to boot, visit Little Shop of Plenty next time you're looking for healthy eats that don't skimp on flavour.
Heaven Raw Cafe
Where all the Freo hippies go to dine, Heaven Raw Cafe have got all your raw and vegan cravings covered. Plonked inside the FERN Community Garden, you can slide into a bench outside in the veggie garden and watch the chickens roam free while digging in to Heaven’s delish nosh. Serving breakfast, lunch and coffee, Heaven Raw Cafe is kid and dog friendly—bonus!
Mojos Bar
The home of live original music in Fremantle, North Fremantle bar Mojos is a Perth music institution and a favourite spot among Perth music junkies. Boasting shows from international acts to unknown locals and everything in between, the diverse crowd and wide variety of tunes always make for a fun night out. Test out your new material at open mic night on Mondays or go for the comedy, reggae or hip hop nights.
Little Lefroy’s
Founded by Cat and Dave Exham, who ate their way around the world before settling back in Perth, Fremantle cafe Little Lefroy's has found a perfect home on South Terrace. Serving up exceptional coffee and delicious brekky and lunch fare like apple crumble porridge, fisherman's pie and an epic mushroom and haloumi burger, Little Lefroy's may be little in name, but it has plenty of heart. One of our fave spots in Perth.
Limones
Limones is a cosy East Fremantle Italian restaurant with a big heart. Housed in an old corner shop building on George Street, the small dining room gives off a homely and rustic feel while the service is spot on. The menu focuses on fresh and local ingredients and everything—from the pasta to the gelato to the bread—is made on-site. Our top tip: go hungry and get the three-course set menu for $70.
Clancy’s Fish Pub
Clancy’s Fish Pub is a Fremantle institution. The perfect place to while away the afternoon soaking up the sun on the grass out back, Clancy’s serve up some of Perth’s best fish and chips. If you need a little something to spice up your life, the Fried Mice (stuffed, deep-fried jalapenos) are for you. Pooches are welcome at this relaxed establishment, and they’ve got plenty of play dough to keep the kiddos happy. You can’t get more Freo than that!
Bar Lafayette
If you need a break from all the hashtags, text speak and midriff tops kids seem to be getting around in these days, head to Perth bar, Bar Lafayette where old world sophistication reigns supreme. Housed in the old Perth Technical School in the Brookfield Place precinct, Bar Lafayette offers up artisanal cocktails, a diverse wine list and boutique beers, alongside tasty bites like soft shell tacos, pulled pork sliders and duck bao. If you’re looking for a place to host your next birthday party, the crew here cater for events for up to 120 people and have a full function menu including bottled cocktails.

Toast also make some killer breakfast bowls and bangin’ milkshakes and juices.

Great coffee and friendly service are always on the menu at the small but vibrant Perth cafe, Blink Coffee Bar. The team behind this Freo cafe is dedicated to making every cup as good as it can be—so you know there’ll be no burnt milk or bitter shots here. Any good coffee needs a good slice, banana bread or muffin to go with it, and those on offer at Blink are just what you’d expect.
Chopin Patisserie & Cafe
Perth Cake specialists Chopin Patisserie & Cafe in Sorrento has more than 30 years’ experience in creating beautiful and award-winning cakes. They’re well known for birthday and wedding cakes, but also have an in store range of quality European style cakes and tortes available to enjoy with a cup of coffee. Their speciality Polish doughnuts (Paczki) – made with sweet dough and homemade plum jam – are a must try.
The Ocean Beach Hotel
Iconic perth pub, The Ocean Beach Hotel (aka OBH) is much better known for its bars than its accommodation, with wide windows looking over the beach in the saloon bar, a bustling and boisterous public bar and a massive beer garden. At night and on Sunday evenings, the Cottesloe location is a popular haunt for uni students, and during the day it’s perfect for a leisurely beach-side lunch. They serve up a range of classic pub fair – think ribs and wings, chilli mussels, steak sandwiches and pizzas.
The Flying Scotsman
Perth pub The Flying Scotsman (affectionately known as 'The Scotto') is a Beaufort Street venue that’s much loved by Mount Lawley locals. It's laidback and welcoming, always bustling, and you know that you’re in for a good pub meal and a great time with friends as soon as you walk through the door. The Scotto always attracts a mixed bag of people – and they’ve got a good (and cheap) range of craft and tap beers, and plenty of classic pub fare. Perth pizza joint, Neighborhood Pizza is a hidden gem in Mount Hawthorn that we reckon dishes out some of the best crispy pizza in Perth. It’s a little hard to find but worth the effort – head to the carpark behind the IGA on the corner of Scarborough Beach Rod and Coogee Street, and look for them behind the big roller door. The open kitchen, industrial interior, long communal tables and cool music creates a great atmosphere, making dining in just as attractive as takeaway.
Nunzio’s
Fremantle Italian Restaurant, Nunzio's, is a breath of fresh air. Situated in a romantic heritage building, Nunzio's is a far cry from the hippy, green smoothie obsesed Fremantle. Serving up authentic Italian fare, including a great range of homemade pastas, Nunzio's is the perfect date night venue with a gorgeous ambience and friendly staff members. But don't fill up too much on pasta because Nunzio's offer a range of delectable desserts made by their pastry chef.
Theo & Co Pizzeria
With more than 50 pizzas on the menu, it's no secret that Perth pizza joint, Theo & Co Pizzeria offer pizza lovers some of the best slices in town. You'll find all sorts of flavour combo's on the inventive and creative menu (like err...a lasagne pizza!) and also the largest variety of dessert pizzas in Perth. The tables get snatched up quickly so make sure you get in early.
