Enjoy this bearable autumn weather while you still can by embracing your time off this weekend! From photography exhibitions to Mexican fiestas, we’ve gathered the coolest events around so you can enter the month of May with plenty of things to do in Sydney!
Desert Ink by Jonathan May
At The Urban List, we like to think of Thursday as ‘Friday Eve’ –a day where you’re not quite ready to party, but nonetheless eager to get out and do something a little quirky. That being said, Desert Ink is holding their official opening at Gaffa Gallery this Thursday. The event will be showcasing a striking series of black and white photographs that tell the tale of eight Mexican tattoo artists who have left their criminal lives behind to follow a mutual love of art and tattooing. The event is totally free and is a must-see for all you tattooed hipsters, artists and photographers out there. If you can't make the opening, the exhibition will be running from May 1st - 11th.
Head On Photo Exhibition
Claimed as proof that Sydney is the event capital of Australia, the Head On Photo Exhibition is the nation’s most prestigious showcase for global photography. Situated in the famous Town Hall, this event features an inspiring collection of cutting edge photography and video media from an array of genres by world-renowned exhibitors. The event also includes speakers, innovative workshops and compelling exhibitions that can be enjoyed by every interest and experience level; so pop by on your way home from work for some free entertainment this Friday!

Prepare to be entertained by Sydney’s premier magician and receive a complimentary dish of Red Lantern’s famous chilli salted squid—sounds like magic to us!
The 6 Week ‘Define Yourself’ Challenge
For things to do in Sydney that involve getting fitter and way more fabulous, there’s no time like the present to head to KX Pilates. The six week Define Yourself Challenge combines motivation, training and nutrition to sculpt your body from head to toe and change your training and diet mindset for good. The challenge includes three KX classes per week, two weekly cardio sessions, before and after measurements, online nutritional eating plans and ongoing support. This challenge may set you back $495, but the long-term results will no doubt be priceless!
Rum DMC with the Sydney Cocktail Club
The folks at Sydney Cocktail Club are holding a rum smackdown this Monday night. Featuring three rums from up-and-coming producers in Asia battling it out against traditional rums from the Caribbean, drinkers get to decide which rum is king. Hey, if it involves us drinking rum (and it does), sign us up! Tickets are $30 and are available here.
Cinco de Mejico!
Our favourite Mexican restaurant in Sydney is hosting their inaugural Cinco de Mayo Fiesta and we can hardly contain our excitement! Promising a night of hot DJ tunes, traditional dancers, yummy canapés, refreshing margaritas and a whole lot of fun, this is one event that can’t be missed! General admission is $55 and includes unlimited canapés (you’re probably sold already but we will continue anyway) and a drink on arrival. Tickets are available online now but be quick, they will be gone before you can say arriba!
