With Mother’s Day just around the corner there are lots of fun things to do in Sydney that involve Mum, so make the most of it with these fitness, film, food and fashion events!

Thursday 7th

No Lights No Lycra's Guest Selector Month – Flight Facilities

If you want to fit in some cardio and have a heap of fun doing it, then look no further than No Lights No Lycra this Thursday! In a nutshell, NLNL is a dance community where there is, you guessed it, no light or lycra in sight! There’s also no teachers, no choreography and no technique–it's just you, music and a space where you can let go and shake out the stress you have built up over the week. This event starts at 7:30pm every week at The Bondi Pavilion and at 189 Church Street Newtown. Tickets cost just $5 at the door, but be warned, there is no pre-sale and limited capacity so arrive early to guarantee your spot. See you on the dance floor Listers!

Lights On Later @ MCA

Embrace MCA’s extended trading hours and engage in some therapeutic art viewing this Thursday evening. Sponsored by the innovative global company General Electric (GE), Lights on Later allows Sydneysiders the opportunity to pop by the MCA after work and catch the latest exhibition, partake in free activities and attend workshops. And if you are looking for the ultimate way to wind down the week, order a glass of wine, a tasty meal and watch the sun set over the harbour while enjoying music from Sydney DJs on the MCA Sculpture Terrace. We think this beats late night shopping any day!

Friday 8th

Lowe Wines Cellar Door at Kitchen By Mike

The Lowe Cellar Door is heading to Kitchen By Mike in Rosebery this Friday and bringing the usual Cellar Door shenanigans along with it! This pop up is running from the 8th to the 10th of May and is offering $15 master classes that showcase all the new vintage wines and old favourites. Patrons can also accompany the experience with a Low Winemakers Dinner for $85 a head (which we highly recommend). So if enjoying a lavish dinner and tasting some vintage wine sounds like your ideal way to start the weekend, make sure you book online to avoid missing out!

Tropical Zombie @ Hotel Steyne

At The Urban List, we don't think there is a cooler way to spend your Friday night than at a live gig. We also think this activity is even cooler when it's free, which is why we will definitely be popping down to see Tropical Zombie at Hotel Steyne in Manly this Friday night. Tropical Zombie is a six piece Sydney-based band, captivating crowds with their dual lead vocals and holiday rock sounds. The show kicks off at 9pm, giving you the perfect excuse to grab a bite to eat from the Hotel’s seaside bistro beforehand. You’re welcome!

Saturday 9th

Curious Cartel’s Popcorn Therapy

Attention all film and fun addicts! If things to do in Sydney that involve interactive activities, DJs, yummy food and refreshing drinks sound like your kind of Saturday then schedule in Curious Cartel’s Popcorn Therapy event for this weekend! With its secret location in Sydney’s CBD, all you need to do is meet at 6pm and bring an open mind for a fun night watching a cult classic come to life as the characters unfold right before your eyes.

The Finders Keepers Markets

Situated at Sydney’s Australian Technology Park, this independent design and art markets offers over 200 design, fashion and artisanal food stalls run by local talent around Australia. With an entry fee of only $2, this event is not to be missed by any designer, foodie or shopaholic! It’s also the perfect place to find those last minute Mother's Day presents, not that you haven’t already organised yours…

Sunday 10th

Mother’s Day Lunch at Toko

If you’re looking to venture beyond breakfast in bed this Mother’s Day, avoid the cliché activities and take your mum to Lunch at Toko on Sunday. Stylishly located in a converted warehouse in Surry Hills, Toko is crowned as one of Sydney’s top izakaya Japanese restaurants due to their fresh produce, modern décor and, of course, delectable share-food. Take Mum here for some quality bonding time, sharing all things sushi, sashimi and seafood. There is also an impressive dessert and drinks menu making it the perfect way to spoil the most important woman in your life! Toko is only taking reservations on Mother’s Day, so book early to avoid disappointment.

The Botanist at Kirribilli Fashion Markets

It's a beautiful combination when good food meets funky fashion, and that is exactly what happens on Sundays when local restaurant The Botanist opens its pop-up shop at Kirribilli markets. In terms of food, fashionistas will be able to choose between chicken, beef, vegetarian and bacon and egg sliders to eat on the go. And if this wasn't enough to win you over, there will also be a selection of refreshing non-alcoholic punches available. So bring your Mum over this Mother’s Day for some tasty retail therapy!

Monday 11th

A Cho Cho San cooking class at Sydney Seafood School

Welcome the new week in the most delicious way possible with a cooking class at Sydney Seafood School! Brought to you by Jonathan Barthelmess and Nicholas Wong from Cho Cho San, this three-hour hands-on class will teach you how to cook simple Japanese dinners with a modern twist. The class may set you back $130, but the look on your family’s faces when you casually whip up a Japanese feast will, no doubt, be priceless.
