Despite being blessed with our country's most tolerable winter weather, we still can’t seem to get used to those fresh mornings and chilly evenings. When winter hibernation sets in evening walks are replaced with Netflix in bed and dinner at your local is subbed out for Uber Eats on the couch.
Luckily, with the help of our friends at Topgolf, we’ve rustled up five winter activities to help you peel yourself off the couch and out into this beautiful city of ours.
#1 Swing Away
Nothing beats (friendly) rivalry over putt putt or releasing some steam at the driving range and for the month of July, Topgolf has an epic calendar of events to make the visit even more worth your while.
If you’re a sucker for Trivia, make sure to head over to Topgolf on a Monday for game show-style trivia, complete with buzzers, live scoreboards and epic prizes. Tuesday nights have half price games, while Wednesday nights are perfect for penny pinching Uni students with three hours of play for only $25.
Our personal favourite is the 90s Friday Night where you can swing and sip while listening to a DJ spin your favourite 90s hits from the Heineken Rooftop Terrace. If you can’t get there on Friday night, never fear as the live beats will continue all through the weekend. Stay tuned for more epic events for their upcoming first birthday celebrations.
#2 High Cheese
Pearls Bar at the Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort at Main beach is putting a delicious, dairy-filled spin on a classic. The High Cheese is, as you would have guessed, a cheese-themed High Tea packed with a plethora of cheesy morsels.
Prepare your stomach for three tiers of mini cheesecakes, ricotta coffee mousse, sticky cream cheese cinnamon rolls, cheese scones and parmesan crostini. But if that’s not enough, there’s also generous slabs of decadent camembert, flavourful cheddar and rich blue cheese accompanied by salty prosciutto, fresh fruit and crackers.
The mouth-watering experience will set you back $50 per person, $65 with a glass of vino or our favourite option, $75 for a whole bottle. This delicious offer will come to an end after winter so make sure to lock it in your diary now.
#3 The Pink Flamingo
If you’re looking for something a little bit different, a little bit racy, and very entertaining, say hello to The Pink Flamingo. A new era of world-class entertainment, The Pink Flamingo delivers sleek, sexy stage shows featuring international superstars in an exciting mix of cabaret and burlesque that will make you feel like you’re at the Moulin Rouge.
Located on the Broadbeach main strip, get ready for a full sensory experience with a modern 1920s art deco interior, complete with plush velvet booths, geometric light fittings and glimmers of gold. The venue also boasts a state-of-the-art circular stage and 20-metre custom-designed LED screen which features as a backdrop so every seat is the best seat in the house.
If you’re keen for a pre-show tipple, take a seat at the signature Pink AIX Rose bar or the MUMM Bubbles and Feathers bar—or enjoy a drink at both. If you’re after the best vantage point of the show, opt for the Birdcage. Located upstairs, it boasts an impressive view of the show and can also be hired out for private parties.
Get ready for a one-way ticket to nostalgia town thanks to Burleigh’s quirky as ever, Rosella’s.
As the name may suggest, this bar pays homage to all things Australian with everything from the food, decor and even the bathroom.
Upon entering you’ll notice art deco prints of Aussie animals, moss green leather booths, native flora and a very welcoming timber bar where you can enjoy delicious Aussie-inspired cocktails, locals beers and endless Aussie wines.
The best, most delicious part? The food will take you way back with epic recreations of classics like vegemite, cheddar and wattle seed butter jaffles, roo carpaccio, bug sambos and a classic prawn cocktail.
#5 The Craft Parlour
Temperatures might take a dive in winter but that doesn’t mean your creativity has to. The Craft Parlour in Miami is here to cultivate every ounce of your creativity with their half-day, full-day and multi-day courses.
Soothe the soul and invigorate the mind by learning a crafty new skill or trusty new tricks that’ll have you adding a personal touch to your home, wardrobe, or catapult you to advanced levels of DIY gifting. Shibori tie dye, hand lettering, basket weaving, kimono sewing, crocheting, naked cake decorating, screen printing, ceramics, candle making, styling for social media shoots and even craft parties for hen’s and birthdays are just some of the amazing workshops on offer.
What are you waiting for? Throw off the covers because it’s time to treat your significant other to a date night with flair this winter—and why not start with Topgolf’s epic June events calendar.
