A NOTE FROM THE EDITOR: When we love something we really, truly LOVE something! And that’s exactly how we feel about our new relationship! Some things just go together. Like cookies and cream, Brandon and Brenda… The Urban List and MINI! Our two families have collaborated to bring discerning readers and drivers a new fortnightly series – MINI Fave 5s. The must-try guide to Brisbane, celebrating the launch of the new MINI 5-door hatch! So, Urban Listers, clear the diary and get excited for our Fave 5s. There’s a whole year of eating, drinking and discovering to be done…

If you can tear yourself away from the microbreweries and the burgers for a minute, you might recall that Brisbane has a bustling breakfast culture. Case in point, the rad new cafes that have been opening shop lately, reminding us why breakfast is still our favourite meal of the day.

As the great, wise Ron Swanson once said, there is no sadness that can’t be cured with breakfast food. Get some of these scrummy Brisbane breakfasts into you.

Bowen Arrow Café

Bowen Hills

A new Brisbane brekky joint in favour of eating on the run, Bowen Arrow do waffles, sweet and savoury bagels, acai bowls, and other tasty eats, ideal for desk jockeys doing a drive-by breakfast stop. An all-day brekky menu, with gluten-free and vegan chow for the less adventurous, means you can get your b-fast on any old time.

The Kiosk

Fortitude Valley

Takeaway breakfast nosh is often sidelined for its sit-down equivalent, but we sing the praises of a Brisbane breakfast spot that caters to those of us with, ya’ know, jobs. Kiosk is from the gang behind Gerard’s Bistro, The Mero, and Laruche (and literally sits behind the later, down the very hip Bakery Lane), so you know you’re in for a good food experience. The menu is short and sweet—their takeaway toasts and great coffee have stolen our hearts.

Pineapple Express

Lovers of all things green, the gang at new Brisbane cafe Pineapple Express are here to keep you on the dietary straight-and-narrow. Smoothies, acai bowls, Coco Whip sundaes…if it’s clean eating and delicious, they’re all over it. More decadent brekky delights like pulled pork eggs benny and My Plate clean-treaties are also hanging around if you want to be a tiny bit bad.

Little Loco

New Farm

There’s nothing crazy about wanting to tuck into breakfast at New Farm’s Little Loco—a sweet little space (it once held Café Bouqiniste in another life) bursting with healthy and satisfying breakfast nosh guaranteed to get your day started right. Two words: Banoffee hotcakes.

King Arthur

New Farm

All hail the King, and his delicious royal nosh. The team behind South Brisbane’s Merriweather have brought their local-friendly talents to New Farm, decking out a quaint minimal space off James Street with one of the best new Brisbane cafes we’ve had the pleasure of brunching at it in a long while. King Arthur's menu is seasonal with rustic feeling and a focus on local, sustainable ingredients, but the freshly baked goodies on the front counter will leave you feeling anything but pious.

We're thrilled to partner with MINI to bring you our Fave 5 series—our fortnightly guide to the best of the best in Brisbane. From food to fashion, Campari to Crossfit, each Fave 5 edition is researched and recommended by The Urban List, and driven by the new MINI 5-Door Hatch—putting the city at your fingertips and giving you the freedom to explore it!
