We Aussies are a pretty healthy bunch, so it's no wonder we host some of the best fitness events in the world. From fun runs, halfies, full marathons and ultra tracks to ocean swims, triathlons and next-level obstacle courses, there are plenty of exercise challenges in Australia to get around. 

Whether you’re a runner, walker, swimmer or proud cheerer-on-er of mates pushing their limits, these are the best upcoming fitness events in 2025 worth travelling for.

The Best Fitness Events In New South Wales

Sydney Marathon

The TCS Sydney Marathon 2025 is expecting 35,000 runners on Sunday 31 August, not including the thousands participating in the 10km version or the 5km Mini Marathon on Saturday 30 August. 

The main marathon course covers a whopping 42.195kms—don’t forget to start your Strava. There are three separate morning run times, with it all wrapping up at 3.15pm; the perfect time to cool off and visit one of the local businesses for a cheeky iced drink.

Sydney Trail Marathon

Missed out on running the Sydney Marathon? There's a bush-bashed version just a few weeks later; Sydney Trail Marathon takes you through Castle Hill’s scenic Bidjigal Reserve, with a full marathon on Sunday 5 October and a half marathon (sold-out—join the waitlist) on Monday 6 October, both starting at 7am. 

The track weaves under eucalyptus canopies, along babbling creeks and past native flora and fauna. Participants score a premium event t-shirt, free race photos and a finishers medal.

Run Huskisson

Running since 2011 (literally), Run Huskisson is one of Australia's largest coastal running festivals. There’s a race for everyone, including a full and half marathon for those eager to compete, a 10km race, and fun runs spanning 5km and 2.5km. You can also pick your start wave for the longer distances.

Bondi To Bronte Ocean Swim

If you’d rather be in the ocean than on the track, the Bondi to Bronte Ocean Swim is for you. The festival-like day is one of Sydney’s most iconic ocean swims. Take part in the 1km around Bondi Bay, classic 2km Bondi Beach to Bronte Beach swim, or the 5km Bondi return course (capped at 150 swimmers).

Moreton Bay Spartan Trifecta Weekend

Want an adrenaline-pumping, outdoor obstacle course where you can test your limits Spartan-style? The Moreton Bay Spartan Trifecta Weekend is a fun, two-day event boasting mud crawls, climb walls, spear throws, fire jumps and more to tackle, with races for all ages and abilities. 

The Sprint is 5km with 20 obstacles, the Super is 10km with 25 obstacles and the Beast is 21km with 30 obstacles. There’s also 1km-3km, competitive and open kids races.

Hamilton Island Triathlon & Ocean Swim

Once-a-year sporting events are a great excuse to book that Hamilton Island holiday you’ve been dreaming of. In mid November, fitness folks from across the globe will travel to Hamilton Island for the 2025 Triathlon (and Junior Triathlon) on Saturday 17 November and the Hamilton Island Ocean Swim on Sunday 16 November. 

The triathlon encompasses a 750 metre swim, a 20km cycle including around the airport runway and a 5km run around the marina and resorts.  The ocean swim event kicks off the following day with 2km, 750m or 350m (for under 13s) race options in the turquoise waters of Catseye Beach.

Run Prix

Circling around the same track as the Melbourne Formula 1, Run Prix is a set of running races at the infamous Albert Park GP Circuit. The Prix Race is a 10km track for sub-50min runners only with $12,000 prize money up for grabs. But there’s also open-entry main races, including a 21km, 10km and 5km, with finisher medals for all events.

The Bloody Long Walk Mornington Peninsula

This fitness event will have you saying, “wow, this is a bloody long walk,” exactly like its name. The 35km walk stretches across the Mornington Peninsula, starting at the Quarantine Station, through Dromana Beach and across Martha Cove inlet before finishing at Martha Cove Marina, taking about seven to eight hours to complete.

Perth City To Surf

The City To Surf is Perth's oldest community fun run with two distance options: 4km and 12km. The race makes its way from the intersection of St George's Terrace and William Street in Perth’s CBD (or McLean Park in Floreat for the 4km option) to City Beach Oval, ending with a free finish line carnival. All participants score a medal and a free tee, too.

Swim Thru Rottnest

The 49th annual Swim Thru Rottnest is taking off on Saturday 6 December, perfectly timed with the start of the summer season. The fun community ocean swim spans 500m or 1600m, helping serious swimmers gear up for the huge 19.7km Rottnest Channel open water swim from Cottesloe Beach to Rottnest Island on Saturday 21 February, 2026.

City-Bay Fun Run

The race runs along the Anzac Highway before finishing at Colley Terrace in Glenelg, just 20 minutes from Adelaide city centre and these perfect post-race restaurants

You’ll start in the beautiful grounds of Carrick Hill House, before heading past the Botanic Gardens, following the River Torrens to Henley Beach and finishing up with coastal views at Glenelg. Proceeds go to the Mitochondrial Disease Foundation, with merch incentives for different fundraising milestones.

​​Cancer Council Women's 5km Walk/Run

The ​​Women's 5K is an annual fun run where participants dress up in pink and walk or run their way through Launceston to raise funds for Cancer Council Tasmania. Open to all ages, genders and abilities, the inclusive fitness event is an easy track, starting and finishing in City Park from 9.30am.

Bruny Island Ultra Marathon

Tasmania’s Bruny Island Ultra Marathon sounds daunting, but the event offers both solo and relay options where up to 10 people can share the distance. Pick between the 42.2km full marra or the epic 64km ultra from Dennes Point to Cloudy Bay Lighthouse, stretching point to point across the whole island. All ages are welcome, including children from 10 years up.
