The long weekend has finally decided to show its pretty little face this weekend and we are pretty damn excited about it. And, in honour of the Queen, we’ll be drinking endless cocktails (because there’s no work on Monday), warming up with Sunday roasts and getting our culture on in every single corner of the city.
Get the calendar out and start filling it up guys, because here are 15 things that you should definitely be doing this weekend.
Free Coffee @ The Emerging Artist Exhibition
In partnership with Art Month (that’s this month, FYI), The Galeries presents the Emerging Artist Exhibition and this is your chance to get a little bit of culture in your life. The exhibition involves five emerging artists (duh) duking it out for the top spot as Sydney’s best young artist, oh and also a cool $4,000. Head down to vote for your fave this month and you’ll score yourself a free SoL Cup—a hand-blown reusable coffee cup that they’ll even fill with a free and delicious coffee. You’re welcome.
When: Thursday 1 - Friday 30 June
Where: Ground Floor, The Galeries, 500 George Street, Sydney
New Grill By Matt Moran @ Paddo Inn Bar & Grill
Stay out of the rain and stay dry at the recently renovated Paddo Inn Bar & Grill. With a slick new menu designed by Matt Moran, expect some of Australia’s best beef and seafood paired with seasonal ingredients that have been cooked to perfection. All of the dishes are goddamn delicious and we strongly suggest you grab your squad and share so you can try one of everything. Don’t go home without wrapping your lips around the salmon gravlax and steak tartare. Just sayin’.
Where: Paddo Inn Bar & Grill

Negroni Week At QT
One of our fave weeks of the year is finally here (aka Negroni Week, duh) and for seven glorious days, QT Hotels (in Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra and the GC) will be putting on an exclusive, daily-changing Negroni menu, with all proceeds going to OzHarvest. Expect modern twists and variations on cocktails such as a white Negroni (with gin, lilet blonde and a lemon twist), rumgroni (aka rum, campari, vermouth and an orange twist) and Negroni sbaglito (think campari, vermouth, prosecco and a slice of orange).

With an epic fit-out and boasting the very best of Sydney’s independent music scene, it’s all kicking off this Friday night, with six nights of experimental sound, electronica and beats curated by The NOW now, Pretty Gritty, Ears Have Ears, Electrofringe, Bare Necessities and Sydney Now’s For Folk Sake. You’re definitely in for some close encounters of the artist kind.

SHUK’s New Winter Menu
The chilly months mean only one thing—epic winter menus. This month, SHUK is joining the party, launching their winter menu for the year which will see you devouring everything from small share plates to big, hearty mains. For starters, expect creamy sweet potato croquettes with coconut labne and chives. The entrees are fresher-than-fresh scallops with truffled parmesan cream, mushrooms and chives. For mains, you’ll love the beef cheeks with beetroot, broccolini, pine nuts and a silky jus. Finish with their Coconut and dulce de leche slice, then take a nap (you’ve earned it).
When: Thursday, Friday & Saturday, 6pm - 10pm, until the end of July
Where: SHUK North Bondi
Huge Negroni Party @ The Clock
While we’re on the topic of Negroni Week, The Clock is throwing one big party this Thursday (that’s tonight, FYI) and it’s going to be pretty over the top. They’ve created a sub-zero version of the classic cocktail that’ll flow through a huge Campari ice sculpture, as well as a Negroni Royale, a Breakfast in Rome and a Smoked Chocolate Boulevardier especially for the occasion. You’ll also graze on a massive charcuterie board (definitely our favourite kind), piled with cheese, meats, pickles, bread and fresh bread. You know Italians don’t do anything by halves and this is no different. $1 from every Negroni sold will be donated to OzHarvest so get on this guys, because how often are cocktails for a good cause?
Book your tickets here.

Save Our Sirius Exhibition
It's no secret you all went a tad crazy when Sirius opened its doors to the public earlier this year. Well guys, we suggest you take a seat. An exhibition dedicated to the building is coming to Sydney—and it involves waffles.
Now that we’ve got your attention, we’ll explain. The exhibition kicks off on 8 June and is presented by The Sirius Foundation, the team fighting to save the building. Artists are welcome to submit their pieces, pay homage to the Sirius building, that iconic One Way Jesus sign, and anything else that rings the Sirius bell for you. Head here for the details.
When: Thursday 8 - Friday 16 June, 10am - 5pm
Where: Annie Wyatt room, National Trust, Observatory Hill
Cost: Free entry
Friday 9 June
Coors Block Party
Kick off the long weekend in a big way at the Coors Block Party this Friday night at Moore Park. You’ll probably (definitely) wake up on Saturday morning feeling a bit dusty, but it’ll be worth it given the fact that the party has a pretty solid line up of DJs (think One Day DJs and Halfway Crooks for starters), brews by Coors and the outdoor area playing host to Superior Burgers. The block party is NBA-themed, so the dance floor will be transformed into a basketball court, but we still expect you to cut some serious shapes out there. Register here to win a double pass.
Where: Max Watts, Entertainment Quarter, Moore Park
When: Friday 9 June from 6pm
The Eye Live Project
Get your groove on from the top of the Sydney Tower Eye thanks to The Eye Live Project. For the duration of Vivid you can catch a variety of different musicians (think Touch Sensitive, Thandi Phoenix and Elizabeth Rose) doing what they do best. 76 stories above street level, with a cheeky 360-degree view of Sydney and all the pretty lights, you won’t want to forget your dancing shoes.
Where: Sydney Tower Eye, 100 Market St, Sydney
When: Friday and Saturday from 26 May to 17 June, 8.30pm - 12am
Saturday 10 June
Brunch Club At Darlo Country Club
Our fave Californian, high volume cocktail bar is your go-to for all things well, booze (and delicious food, obvs). Darlo Country Club hosts one of their boozy brunches this weekend and since it’s basically one of our favourite ways to spend a Saturday, we’re pretty damn excited. This one always brings a bit of decadence to dining and drinking, with its high ceilings, linen panelling and pastel decor. Plus, we’re pretty sure a six-course feast featuring a salmon board (yes board), topped with salmon gravlax and bagels, and a double smoked ham and gruyere Croque Madame sounds like an epic idea. Especially when it’s sided with all the St Germaine spritzs, Moet and Chandon you can handle.
When: Saturday 10 June, 11.30am - 2.30pm
Where: Darlo Country Club
Cost: $65 - $105, book here.
Sunday 11 June
Chiswick Sunday Roast Series
It’s officially that time of the year fam—Sunday roast season is upon us and it is absolutely the best way to spend errry Sunday afternoon. Chiswick is turning it on with the family classics that they’re known for. Kicking off last week, their Sunday Roast series will be in full swing by this weekend, with whole roast duck, with parsnip and thyme. Next week will be a slightly different story, with cottage pie and baby carrots gracing the menu and the final week of June will see you tucking into the roast pork knuckle, with braised cabbage and mash. This one is a no brainer, tbh, so just bring down your whole crew (or better, your entire family), buy up big and share the lot.
When: Every Sunday in June
Where: Chiswick Woollahra
Cost: $75 per person
Hotel Centennial LIVE Winter Jazz Series
Sunday sessions don’t come any smoother than this. Hotel Centennial is launching their live jazz and blues series and we literally cannot think of anything better than snuggling by the fire, with a red wine in hand, listening to the grand piano in full swing. Chef Justin North will be serving up all of the winter warmers, like Waugh beef and ale pie, with creamy potato puree and crushed swede and because Sunday roasts were made for winter, he’ll be serving up his take on our favourite classic. Thursdays are a similar story, with up-and-coming musicians taking to the piano, so settle in and soak up the ultimate chilled vibes.
When: Every Sunday, 3pm - 6pm
Where: Hotel Centennial
West Hollywood’s Hottest Chef Hits Sydney
In honour of the Queen’s long weekend, one of LA’s hottest chefs is coming to town. E.P. & L.P’s Head Chef Louis Tikaram is joining the already super impressive (and tasty) line up at The Dolphin. Get excited people—this one is going to be a serious Sunday session. He’s designed two custom menus for the occasion, so it won’t matter whether you head for the Wine Room or the Dining Room, because they’ll both be finger-licking good. The Wine Room will have dishes like Fijian-style ceviche of fresh longline snapper, bathed in creamy coconut milk and a hit of zesty lime and chilli flying over the pass. Meanwhile the Dining Room is more of a Pacific yellow curry, and pizzas with five-spice caramel hock affair. There’ll be DJ sets throughout the afternoon and tbh, you can’t really go wrong with this one. Meet you there!
When: Sunday 11 June, 5pm – 10pm
Where: The Dolphin
High Tea @ Rawsons Restaurant
It’s the Queen’s birthday this weekend and it’s kind of a big deal. It also means that you need to kick it like a royal for the day and head out for high tea. Score a super cute lunch with delicious cakes, scones and finger sandwiches. We don’t royal often but when we do, we royal ridiculously well (Sunday sesh-style) at Rawson’s Restaurant.
Grab your tickets here.
When: Sunday 11 June, from 3pm
Where: Epping Club, 45-47 Rawson Street, Epping
Cost: $50 per ticket
Newtown’s Chilli Festival
If you’re someone that likes it hot, expect to be starry eyed and giddy AF about this—Newtown is set to host Sydney’s inaugural Chilli Festival this long weekend.
As you’d expect, the day comes complete with a chilli eating competition (soz guys, but victory is pretty much ours), chilli eats and drinks (obvs), and even a chilli brew off (not 100% sure what that means, but we’re ready). Register for deets and the chilli eating competition here.
When: Sunday 11 June, 12pm - 9pm
Where: Bank Hotel, King Street
