Nestled in the main Kingsland strip, there’s no missing Elisabeth. Fronted with greenery, and a peep-through window, you’ll find a modest space featuring a hip fit-out. Pretty much the most perfect spot in Auckland for a date—ever—you’ll be greeted by a cabinet filled to the brim with treats, from tarts to slices. Take your warm brew around the back to the intimate lounging area and bask in the glitter of the fairy light fireplace, infused with the heavenly aroma of caffeine and chocolate.
A coffee, chocolate and dessert enthusiast, Rosh Java, together with husband Upul Hettiappu, are the peeps who brought Elisabeth to life. A multicultural character of delightful intrigue, Elisabeth’s unique dessert menu carries French, German, Middle Eastern and Indian influences—all of which make for a fragrant and innovative menu of sweet eats you didn’t know you needed!
“Elisabeth is intimate, classy, warm and sophisticated,” says Rosh. “Coffee is something we take very seriously, and our chocolate is simply...the business.”
And she isn’t wrong!! Sourced from the Sao Tome regions of West Africa and the Dominican Republic, you’ll find yourself spoilt for choice with the selection of chocolate goodies on offer. Our pick would have to be a S’More Hot Chocolate, featuring house milk chocolate topped with a ginormous torched marshmallow, chocolate sauce and chocolate shavings (it doesn’t get any better than that!).
Or, treat yourself to the extensive range of hot chocolate ‘mess’. Choose from milk, dark, peppermint, mayan chilli, lamington, and Rosh’s pick—ginger. Oh, and did we mention there’s FREE top ups?! That’s right, you could be sitting back, relaxing and sipping on liquid happiness all night long. Just when you thought our foodie scene couldn’t get any better, we’re blessed with bottomless hot choc #winning.
In the middle of the chocolate wonderland, don’t forget to check out the dessert menu, which has been crafted with care. Our top pick would have to be the magical bakhlava crumble, featuring homemade sticky pistachio and almond crumble served on a generous helping of the best homemade orange blossom vanilla ice cream in town—it’s even topped with rose pashmak fairy floss.
Other signature dishes include a choctastic brownie affogato trifle, cookies and cream profiterole and if a gang of you really mean business, the dessert degustation of your dreams is for you.
