This weekend is choc-a-bloc with things to do! We’ve got a doggy music festival, a chocolate making workshop and an Oktoberfest food truck party. There’s plenty to keep us busy so without further ado, here are 12 awesome things to do in Melbourne this weekend:
Chocolate Making Workshop
Chocolate lovers rejoice! If you love chocolate (and really, who doesn’t) and have always wanted to try your hand at making it yourself then this is your weekend. PassionFruut are holding a chocolate making workshop this weekend that’s perfect for beginners. During the 4-hour course you’ll learn a bit about the history of chocolate, the art of tempering and you’ll get to choose flavors and make your own little truffles (yes you get to take some home too). Oktoberfest Food Truck Party
The Food Truck Park are at it again! Over three epic days this weekend they’re celebrating the world’s largest beer festival by bringing us Melbourne’s favorite German and European food trucks, craft beer jugs and a huge Bavarian-themed beer hall. Different trucks will be wheeling in each day and the list is incredible! So make sure you check out all the info and plan which day to go to (or just head to all of them). Let’s get merry!
Melbourne Salami Festa
No meat lovers you’re not dreaming, its real. This will be the fifth year that the Melbourne Salami Festa will be running and it is a choice destination for any carnivore. This year the Festa will open a day early and host a Farmer’s Market and open the Grand Salumi Hall. Sunday is where the real fun begins though with local salami makers from across Melbourne showcasing their homemade salami for you to taste. Make sure you take notes though because you’ll also get to vote for your favorite salami in the People’s Choice Award! Check out all the ticket and program info here.
Swig & Nibble
This weekend Polperro are hosting an Australian exclusive event featuring internationally acclaimed chef, Kevin Cherkas. A quick glance over Kevin’s culinary resume and we’re certain this is going to be an incredible feed. Diners will be presented with nine uniquely crafted dishes that will be paired with Polperro and Even Keel wines. Tickets start at $85 and there are six sessions available. This awesome little wine festival features 14 different wineries from across the Yarra Valley, including Billanook Estate, Seville Estate, and Yarra Peaks. Each winery will have live music and serve entrée-sized meals. You can pick the wine and food you’d like to try or choose a little pocket of wineries and jump from one to the next. Dandenong Festival of Lights
The Dandenong festival of Lights will be coming to a close this month so if you haven’t already checked it out, then this weekend could be a great opportunity to do so. Celebrating Chinese culture, the festival features over 500 silk lanterns with vibrant light displays, some of which are over 20 meters. There’s also lion dancing and drumming shows as well as a dumpling bar and other food stalls. Check out all the info and grab tickets here.
Supple Fox, the team behind some of Dark Mofo's most talked about performances has teamed up with The Huxleys, Gabi Barton, and artist Shaun Gladwell to launch a living art installation at Arbory Bar & Eatery. It runs from October 5 - 23, 6:30pm until late. To find out more, click here.
The good folks over at 48h Gnocchi e Pizza Bar are hosting a Gnocchi making class this Saturday. This hands-on class will take you through the process that the chefs at 48h use themselves to make quality gnocchi that you’ll get to take home with you. Leaving Tradition Behind
It’s the ultimate, no holds barred bartender showdown! Well not quite that extreme but Menace To Sobriety are throwing a cocktail competition this Sunday. Bartenders from far and wide are coming down to unleash the full potential of Amaro Montenegro by whipping up their own cocktail creations. Head down to The Rochester Hotel this Sunday to enjoy some ripper cocktail specials and to see what Melbourne’s best bartenders have cooked up. Check out all the info here.
Hands down the most adorable music festival you’ll go to this spring. Presented by Oscar's Law and One Little Indian Enterprises, Dogapalooza is a dog-friendly music festival being held this Sunday at Burnley Park. The festival will feature ‘dog-friendly music’ from The Little Stevies, Thelma Plum and more as well as food trucks from Waffle & Shake. Funky Pies and Little Mushroom Co. All proceeds raised will go to Oscar’s Law, Melbourne’s dog rescue groups: Stafford Rescue Victoria, Melbourne Animal Rescue, and Puppy Tails Rescue. Check out all the info and grab tickets here.
Sunday Lunch Rose Sessions
You can’t pass up a good Sunday Lunch sesh. This weekend Sth Central are putting on a five-course lunch matched with five rosés sourced from around the world. The menu looks incredible with canapé and share plates of Hirasama Kingfish, black garlic, radish & tapioca crisp, Roast Mushrooms, pan fried gnocchi, hazelnuts, chard, truffle oil with black barley, charred corn, ricotta, avocado and heaps more. Flower & Garden Market
If your green thumb is itching then head down to Barkley Square this Sunday for a plant lovers’ paradise. This market will feature free workshops, gardening presentations, stalls and entertainment. If indoor plants are more your thing then there will also be a Glasshaus pop up nursery, and if you’re looking for some flowers then be sure to stop by the Gangemi's flower stall. One For The Diary…
Iron your shirts and get out the fancy dresses, it's time for a cocktail party! The Bali Street Dogs Fund is throwing their annual cocktail fundraiser and this year they’re bringing in Pete Smith and Ronda Burchmore to host the event. All proceeds will go to fund animal welfare for the growing number of street dogs and cats in Bali, with every $30 raised allowing a dog to be desexed and treated. The event will be held on Friday the 14th of October at the Melbourne Town Hall and tickets are $100. You can book tickets and get more info, as well as check out past events here.
