If you’ve ever braved long-haul flights and inevitable jet lag to get to the other side of the world, you’ve probably heard the statement “oh wow, you came all the way from New Zealand?!”. The funny thing is, most people will ramble about how much they’d like to visit home of Lord of the Rings but seems to end it with “but it’s too far away.”

Dammit, people! We might be at the bottom of the world but our mighty nation is a playground, full of some of the coolest experiences on offer. If you’re in need of more convincing of why you need to visit little ol’ Aotearoa, here are 21 things you can only do in New Zealand. P.S. They’re all bucket list material.

  1. Have a kea pull your windscreen wipers off. Cheers mate.

  2. Pretend you’re a Hobbit for the day. Complete with a pint at The Shire’s local pub.

  3. Go skiing in the morning then hit up the beach in the arvo. No part of the country is more than 128km from the ocean.

  4. Watch the world’s best rugby team do their thing on their home turf.
