Winter means literally one thing (besides comfort food, cocktails and Sunday roasts) and that thing is bingeing TV shows. So pop on your old, shabby, but comfy AF trackies (you know the ones) and snuggle in—we see a LOT of doona days in your near future.
These are all of the TV shows that we’re slamming right now, and that you absolutely need to know about. We’ve thrown in a little something for everyone—whether you’re a thrill-seeker, want to learn things or are just here for the LOLs. We got you.
The Young Pope
This is the story of the first American Pope, Lenny Belardo and as you can imagine, controversy ensues. The Pope is played by Jude Law, so it’s hardly surprising that this one is a bloody winner—is it even possible for HBO to produce a flop? We think that’d be a no.
The Handmaid's Tale
Set in a dystopian future this one can get a little bit heavy, but boy oh boy is it bloody brilliant. With an all-star cast including Elizabeth Moss (Mad Men) and Alexis Bledel (Gilmore Girls) you know you’re in for a good binge sesh. In a nutshell: women can no longer breed and those who can are forced to become concubines. Yep. Get on it.
Younger
You should really be on board this one already (Nico Tortorella and Hillary Duff should be reasons enough), but the new season of Younger has officially started to drop on Stan.
Gypsy
This one’s a psychological thriller and we’ll be honest—two episodes in and you’ll still be pretty damn confused. Naomi Watts plays a New York psychologist, who goes wayyyy too deep into the lives of her patients—you’ll definitely spend the entire show just trying to figure her out.
Master of None
Aziz Ansari plays an indecisive 30-year old actor in New York City and you’ll follow all of the LOLs as he tries to figure out what the hell he wants to do with his life and also, whom he wants to do life with.
Friends From College
Sometimes, we just want to sit down and fill our day with all of the funnies. Friends From College is for one of those days, following the lives of a group of college friends as they try to adult. Sounds familiar.
Power
Have you ever dreamed of a life as a drug kingpin in New York? Yeah, us neither, but that’s exactly what Power is about and we’re already intrigued.
The Keepers
Lovers of true crime anything will love this one (guilty). The Keepers is a documentary series investigating the 1969 murder of Sister Catherine Cesnik and you’ll be lead down a damn fickle road into the politics of the Catholic Church and many cover ups along the way.
Ballers
We still love the fact that The Rock is actually in shows that we want to watch (WWE just wasn’t our thing #sorrynotsorry) and in Ballers he’s a former football superstar trying to find ridiculous success as a financial advisor. It’s already three seasons deep, so get on it.
Search Party
Search Party kicks off with a girl going missing and follows the funnies as a group of friends go looking for her. You’ll laugh, you’ll wonder how these people manage to keep themselves alive (without a functioning brain) and you’ll want to watch it all in one day.
GLOW
From the same legends that brought us Orange Is The New Black, GLOW is all about a struggling artist who’s thrown into the world of 1980s women’s wrestling. Expect more glitter and spandex than you can handle—you’ll smash through this one in a day, we’re sure.
Bates Motel
From the executive producer of Lost, this terrifying drama basically just confirms everything we already knew about motels in small American picturesque towns—they’re terrifying (like we said).
Suits
Your favourite sneaky (borderline criminal) lawyers are back with new episodes and do you really need any more convincing than the fact that you’ll be gawking at Harvey Spector for hours on end? We didn’t think so.
House of Cards
You know the drill—crazy president on a power trip basically just goes around messing things up. The fifth season recently dropped onto Netflix and if you’re not already aboard this train, then it’s probably time to jump on.
Wentworth
An oldie but a goodie, we’re pretty sure you know the drill when it comes to Wentworth—the fifth season of this Australian prison drama has just wrapped up, so you have some catching up to do.
Preacher
This one is the brainchild of Seth Rogan, Evan Goldberg and Sam Catlin, and involves supernatural events in a Texas church and a vampire moving to town. Yep.
