Just in case you needed another listing saved in your Airbnb wishlist, a private island is now for rent in Italy, and if you can round up 16 mates, it’ll only set you and your travel buddies back about $77AUD per night each.
Known as Falconera, the island, owned by the Sarzetto family, is nestled in the Venetian lagoons at the northern end of the Adriatic Sea. The accommodation is exactly what you’d expect for a coastal Italian getaway: the airy farmhouse is simple, yet drenched in rustic charm with exposed wooden interiors and several fireplaces found inside and out.
What makes Falconera so authentic isn’t just the accommodation itself, but the island in its entirety. Frequenting the shallows is the flamboyance of pink flamingos that call the island home, while the owners of the island cultivate their own produce for guests as well as the local area—most notably oysters.
The Venetian experience is furthered by the fresh seafood on offer that’s caught off the island by the Sarzettos, as well as your morning eggs collected from the roaming chickens.
Until recently, the farmhouse was a private residence, but the recent collective efforts of the family renovating this property has seen Falconera become one of the more popular listings across Airbnb.
Falconera will set you back around $1220AUD a night for 16 people. Upon booking, the host will arrange a private boat from the closest township, Cavallino-Treporti.
Best keep that tab open for the moment that international borders reopen. In the meantime, start planning your local escape via our Travel section.
