Good food and good times go together like Sid and Nancy. There’s nothing we love more than hearty, mouth-watering eats paired with a decent dose of good vibes. Add some refreshing bevvies to the mix and we’re as happy as that guy Larry!
If you’re after good vibrations yourself, look no further than Beachlands’ newcomer, The Franklin. The eatery-slash-drinkery is on the fast-track to becoming a fave pozzy for locals and city-folk alike (yep, it’s totally worth the drive).
The Franklin’s exterior resembles several boat sheds, immediately oozing ocean vibes. The theme continues inside with portholes lining the kitchen, a model sail boat on display and a rope lattice wall. A navy blue colour scheme is perfectly complimented by baby pink and light woods.
The light and bright space boasts a bar area to the left and restaurant-esque dining to the right. There’s also a spacious courtyard for al fresco eating (and drinking!). Pull up a stool, chair or booth, and soak in the relaxed atmosphere.
To kick-start your good time, grab a drink from the bustling bar. There’s an extensive range of bottled and tap beers with a focus on crafty numbers. There’s also an impressive wine list and non-alcoholic drinks—including fresh coconut water.
The innovative cocktail menu got our attention with its Mai Muay Thai. The rum-based cocktail showcases flavours of lime, Szechuan pepper, lemongrass, ginger and lychee (best concoction ever, right?!).
If you love espresso martinis, sip on the Tortuga with dark rum, Kahlua, maple and—of course—espresso. “It’s like an espresso martini for a pirate,” explains the bartender.
Nicely hydrated, work your way through the mouth-watering menu. Designed to be shared with friends, there’s an abundance of small and large sharing plates as well as grilled dishes and seafood numbers.
Start with salt and pepper squid, poutine or spicy chicken wings (we loved the latter!) before biting into a beef burger oozing with cheese. For something spicier, the Bratwurst hot dog packs a punch with chili mustard and jalapeños—yeow!
If you and your squad have worked up an appetite, the tender lamb shoulder is a meal-and-a-half with roast potato, carrot, capsicum and olives. Alternatively, feast on pork ribs, pork schnitzel or beetroot risotto.
You’ll also find various cuts of steak, freshly shucked oysters a classic fish’n’chips. The bacon hock salad is particularly divine on wintery days, packed with potato, gherkin, beans and capers.
Our advice? Order a range of dishes and graze the day away—The Franklin is ideal for both a good time and a long time. Better yet, The Franklin regularly showcases live music, sport and they’ll happily host your next shindig.
Thanks for bringing the good times to Beachlands, The Franklin. Until we
meet eat again.
