Brace Yourself, Hamilton And Wellington Are Getting An Orchestral Dance Concert

Auckland Town Hall

Ever wanted to hear Darude’s Sandstorm in G Minor with the Auckland Philharmonic Orchestra? Yeah, us neither, come to think of it. But it does sound like one awesome mash-up.

Welcome to the world of Synthony—a world-wide movement that pairs famous orchestras with flat-cap wearing DJs to host wall-to-wall banger-fests. Having already sold out Christchurch and Auckland this year it's now coming to Hamilton on October 12 and Wellington on October 25.

Here’s what to expect. The Auckland Symphony Orchestra will be taking to the stage at Hamilton Claudelands and Orchestra Wellington will come to the TSB Arena, alongside some of New Zealand’s best up-and-coming DJs and live performers. The whole motley crew will then assault your frontal cortex with dance floor bangers from the last 30 years of electronica. No Mozart, we promise.

The hall will also be decked out in your usual Berlin-underground mix of lasers, smoke machines, strobes and mapped video projections.

Here’s the line-up we know so far: Kings (our very own rapper, singer and songwriter), Jenny B (the voice on Corona's 'Rhythm of the Night'), DJ General Lee, Helen Corry, Cherie Mathieson and saxophonist Lewis McCallum. The whole thing will be pumping till the wee hours.

You'd better hurry along now, as tickets are selling fast, you can pick your Hamilton tickets up from here, and Wellington's from here
