Turns out Melbourne and Perth aren't the only cities in the Southern Hemisphere to enjoy a spot of dachshund aka sausage dog racing. This month Chapel Bar & Bistro in Auckland is getting in on the action by hosting their 2nd Annual Sausage Dog Race!
The event will consist of—you guessed it—a bunch of saussie dogs racing for the title. Cuteness. Overload.
It all begins with qualifying heats, before a very slow, very inept final. The course? A monster 20 metre course, sure to test the stamina of the average dachshund. It’ll be a non handicap event, with some of the country’s finest sausage-shaped athletes flying in to compete.
Sausage dogs both young and old will be competing for the coveted title of the world's (well, Auckland's) speediest sausage.
Expect dachshunds dressed in their Oktoberfest fineries, trotting along to compete for the glory. Will last years' winner Hendricks keep his title of fastest dachshund out, or will a speedier sausage take his coveted crown?
Heats start on October 22nd. Mark your diaries, dachshund lovers and owners!
Where: Chapel Bar and Bistro
