New Opening: Long Bay Surf Club

By Jess Willemse - 02 May 2019

North Shore foodies have just scored a next-level eatery that combines inner-city dining with chill beach vibes.

Introducing Long Bay Surf Club, the newest and most delicious addition to the up and coming Long Bay Village development. Darren Tolley and Dean Lodge, known for central hotspots like Scarlett Slimms & Lucky and Citizen Park, have brought the city to the ‘burbs with this elevated seaside restaurant.

Situated two minutes from the picturesque Long Bay beach, this eatery overlooks the regional park and boasts stunning outdoor seating and a cabana-style bar. Step inside and you’ll be greeted with a surf club come New York cocktail lounge. We’re talking expansive dining spaces and cosy nooks, decked out in industrial fittings, greenery, and bohemian accents.

At the helm of this one-of-a-kind operation is the dynamic duo: General Manager Scott Ruddock (The Grill and Headquarters) and Executive Chef Ross Birch (Citizen Park). Together they have assembled a top-notch team including bartender Rene Beijer (ex Dr. Rudi’s) and managers from Auckland’s hottest restaurants.

The elevated pub fare offers something for everyone, from decadent meats to fresh salads and sharing plates. Burger-lovers can’t go past the Angus beef number, adorned with double cheese, bacon, onions, pickles, and horseradish. Alternatively, try the ‘Sunblock Me Up’ from their pizza selection—a veggie option staring wild mushroom, blue vein cheese, broccolini, and toasted almonds.

Those after a healthy bite should dig into a colourful poke bowl featuring tuna, grapefruit, smashed avocado, quinoa, and miso. Pair this with a refreshing sip from their original cocktail list—we’re into the ‘Lava Flow,’ a strawberry twist on the traditional Pina Colada.

Long Bay Surf Club also offers up a selection of hearty mains like fresh Cloudy Bay clams and melt-in-your-mouth pork belly. Taste the sea with the Atlantic scallops, which are seared to perfection and served with boudin noir, toasted cauliflower, and grains. We’re drooling.

Whether you’re after a healthy lunch, mid-afternoon beer in the sun or refined evening out with friends—Long Bay Surf Club has you covered. They even offer DJ sessions Friday through Sunday, transforming the outdoor space into the place to be come the weekend.

Quickly establishing itself as a local favourite and destination restaurant, head to Long Bay Surf Club to soak up the beach bites and easy atmosphere.
