In case you missed the memo, plants are the new dogs. Yep, these green treasures are filling homes and bringing smiles to the dials of literally thousands of people in the City of Sails.
And now it’s time to get those green thumbs at the ready because a massive plant fair is coming to Auckland this weekend.
Taking place at the spectacular Arlies Garden and Wetlands, it’s one not to miss. Based in Whitford, Arlies is one of Auckland’s best known gardens that was born out of a desire of owner Beverly McConnell to create a large, informal garden, reminiscent of her Hawkes Bay childhood. It covers some four hectares, with rolling terrain, lawns, ponds and waterfalls. Sound idyllic? That’s because it is.
This weekend, Arlies is throwing open their gates to the public in a plant fair to end all plant fairs. For just ten dollars cash (which will go towards the garden upkeep) you’ll be able to stroll through the stunning gardens, filled with all the browns, yellows, oranges and reds in true autumnal beauty. Naturally, there will be plants for sale from leading New Zealand growers.
Light refreshments and live music will add to the ambiance.
Whether you’re a keen gardener, a specialist or simply love plants, this is one event you don’t want to miss.
