Fashionistas unite! Britomart Fashion Sessions are under (run)way. And, because Britomart are super duper cool, we’ve been given front-row passes to all five fashion shows. Move over, Anna Wintour.
The event has cemented itself on the New Zealand fashion calendar and the three-day affair features eight designers across five shows.
Yesterday evening things kicked off with a catwalk show down Tyler Street. Yup, Britomart literally stopped rush-hour traffic in the name of fashion—soo rock’n’roll. The show featured new-season threads from Kate Sylvester, Zambesi and WORLD.
As the oh-so beautiful models strutted their stuff underneath the gleaming runway lights (while dodging fire hydrant covers with ease), we oohed and ahhed at the gorgeous garments.
Kate Sylvester had us increasing our credit card limits with her “a Muse” collection. The autumn/winter range is inspired by Picasso’s artistic interpretation of a muse. We loved the varying fabrics and textures (leather with lace, oh my!), sharp tailoring and—our personal favourite—scalloped lingerie.
It was a tough act to follow, but Zambesi took up the challenge with style. Their collection featured warm purple and brown hues completed with black and grey shades.
While we’re totally heartbroken this weekend is officially the last of summer, Zambesi’s collection has us all excited to dress up for cooler days. The range will have us kitted out in black faux fur, leather with fringe detailing and printed turtle necks. Winter, come at us.
The finale saw WORLD bringing the party to the catwalk. Based around the concept of “staying weird”, the collection features all things bright, beautiful and, of course, weird. We
liked loved the vivid makeup with pops of pink, green, red and blue sweeping across the models’ cheeks and into their hair.
The WORLD collection featured a whooole lot of textures and fabrics, including velvet, satin and feathers. We were lusting over a pair of high-waisted dress trousers in a bold blue and orange floral print. Do want.
Today things moved into the Atrium on Takutai where as makeshift runway has magically appeared. The midday show saw Trelise Cooper showcasing her new collection, Paris of the Orient. Think glitz and glam with silk feathers, embroidery and faux fur all making an appearance. Shout out to the models for navigating stairs in quite possibly the world’s highest heels!
