Holy ravioli, Italy is coming to Auckland!
This November, us lucky Aucklanders will be treated to a taste of Italy, right in our very own backyards. That’s right, Festival Italiano is back for another year and is bringing the very best of the boot-shaped country all the way to Aotearoa.
For one day only, on Sunday November 8, Newmarket will undergo a total Italian takeover as the Festival Italiano sets up shop and prepares to dish out the best Italian fares in Auckland (or the world, for that matter). And this year's festival will be even larger as the Italian America's Cup team Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli will be joining celebrations with special appearances and doling out spot prizes.
From 11am—5pm, Osborne Street, Kent Street and Rialto Centre will be transformed into a busy and bustling market space where you can pick up all kinds of Italian knick-knacks. From Limoncello to artisan cheeses, you’ll find everything you need to stock up a pantry as if it was straight outta Sicily.
Of course, needing a super special mention are all the street food vendors who will be dishing up the Italian nosh we know and (obsessively) love. Come with an empty belly and prepare to indulge in all of your favourite cheesy and carb-loaded Italian fares like wood-fired pizza, to freshly made pasta, fluffy gnocci and more from the likes of Baduzzi and Farina. Polish your meal off with hand-crafted gelato, a decadent tiramisu or an Aperol Spritz. Buon appetito!
New this year will be an Italian degustation table where you can get your lips around some Grana Padano, Mortadella, Prosciutto di Parma and Finocchiona (a special salami made in Tuscany).
Not only will you be able to treat your tastebuds at this Italian extravaganza, but there'll also be all kinds of art workshops, dancing, live music and entertainment to indulge all your senses.
To say we're amped for the Festival Italiano is a huge understatement. We'll catch you there in November, fellow Auckland bellos and bellas.
