The 90s throwbacks are in full swing right now (see here for an actual Blockbuster you can rent out through Airbnb) and frankly, we’re not even mad about it.

The reboot is totally unprecedented, only manifesting itself into an actual possibility off the back of a fan-made “remake” trailer that went viral in 2019. The video caught the attention of Will Smith who will now work with filmmaker Morgan Cooper (also the guy that created the trailer in the first place) to piece together a new take of The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air.

The reboot is set to follow the tone of Cooper’s trailer which framed the new version as a gritty drama instead of a sitcom and will look at a working-class Philadelphia teen who moves in with high-class uncle and aunt in LA. The new show will be known as Bel-Air and Will Smith has brought onboard original producers Benny Medina and Quincy Jones, plus the show’s original creators Andy and Susan Borowitz as executive producers.

There are no details yet on which streaming juggernaut will score the distribution rights (Netflix, HBO Max and Peacock are reportedly going in strong) so stay tuned for where you’ll actually be able to watch the show and when it will air.

In the meantime, here are the best movies to watch on Netflix.
