Daylight savings is this week, and that means summer is coming, which of course means that we’ll be baring skin, very soon… Which reminds us, we should attempt to eat healthy, at least some of the time. Thanks to new opening Sip Kitchen we can do just that, while at the same, glorious time actually down substance that is full of flavour.
Owners Darren Blackwell and Vicky Plaistowe are unashamedly wellness-obsessed. Their first born cafe has been feeding and watering the good people of the Shore in Mairangi Bay for over a year now, and a trip across the bridge was a natural progression for them.
Walking into their second outpost in Newmarket, you’ll be greeted with an overflowing cabinet of handcrafted, raw goodies, vibrant salads and savoury snacks. The cosy cafe is dotted with tables and stools, beech wood giving warmth to the industrial building it’s in. Which also houses a fabric store - handy if you happen to need coffee and a few metres of silk at the same time.
The menu here also has plenty of liquid options—countless whole food smoothies and cold pressed juices are on offer, abundant with health-centric and interesting ingredients. And if you need a little warming up, we suggest you order one of their brightly coloured lattes. There’s matcha, and a perfect pink beetroot, ginger and blueberry concoction while their turmeric latte is a fiery yellow thanks to the juice of a fresh bulb—no powder around here! Or, if you’re in need of a pick me up, their bulletproof coffee is a must try… Strong espresso made sweet with the addition of coconut oil and glossy and creamy thanks to a generous knob of butter.
Sip Kitchen is a welcome addition to the burgeoning back streets of Newmarket—and is a surefire way to help shed that winter coat just in time for the looming bikini season.
