These Places Make Clean Eating A Breeze

We understand it can be difficult at the best of times to try eating healthy when out with friends. Luckily for us, there’s a new health fad the world is currently undergoing, we’ve been welcoming a bunch of eateries that make clean eating a breeze.

We’ve picked our faves that will help you say no to the waffles and yes to the smoothie.

Little Bird

Ponsonby, Kingsland, Britomart

Little Bird is the ultimate spot for clean eaters, vegans and raw-food diet advocates. While you may not be able to get your daily dose of meat protein and roast veges, rest assured your insides will be thanking you after a meal here. It’s a top spot for those with food allergies and gut health issues—rest assured you’ll be on your way to wellness after a visit here. Little Bird's Bird Bowls are always a good choice, or just have the cheesecake, whatever cheesecake is there, just trust us.

The Cav

We know what you’re thinking—clean eats at a pub? As if. The Cav, however, takes a ‘eating’s not always cheating’ approach to dining with a dedicated healthy eats menu. We’re talking spicy chicken pho, a brilliant burger bowl, turkey tacos and their Auckland-famous naked burrito. It’s loaded with chipotle lime grilled chicken, brown and black rice blend, black beans, yoghurt sour cream dressing and fresh veggies. You’ll be hooked.

Two Spoons

Two Spoons puts the focus on health back into food. Where possible, the husband and wife duo source local and organic produce to serve up a fine range of salads, smoothies, vegan treats and Fairtrade coffee. The carmelised onion scones are a hit here—don't leave without one.

Hibiscus Coast

If you’re an advocate for the wholefoods diet, then be sure to visit Gather Wholefoods on the Hibiscus Coast. Gather Wholefoods goes by its name, with a focus on whole, real foods that nourish the body. The Gather Hotcakes are fab, sometimes you just need all of the (healthy) maple syrup.

Sip Kitchen

Mairangi Bay, Newmarket

What started in the ‘burbs of the Mairangi Bay, now has a second home in Newmarket, taking over the old Little & Friday premises. At Sip Kitchen you can choose from a delicious selection of raw treats, matcha lattes, amazing smoothies and of course, nourishing wholefoods. For a sweet treat, the kumara and cacao slice is amazing. For something a bit more filling, try the frittata.

Those of you who work in the CBD, Misters is your answer to health. The café is dedicated to serving only real food—say goodbye to processed foods and sugar-fuelled energy drinks. Offering a seasonal menu to make use of organic, local produce, you know you are getting the goods when you eat here. The brioche french toast is our pick here, I mean it comes with lime compot and coconut yoghurt, though they had us at brioche.

Craft Kitchen

For those of you still on the paleo buzz, Craft Kitchen at the top of Ponsonby Road will be your fave. Choose from a range of paleo baked goods (think donuts and muffins!), cabinet food and cooked meals if you’re eating in. Meat eaters rejoice with the paleo feast, serving up 12hr BBQ organic beef, paleo toast, smoky sausages, kumara hash & gravy.

The Midnight Baker

Mt Eden

Our favourite bread that we’ve eaten at cafes across Auckland now has its own home. Yes, that’s right. The infamous Midnight Baker bread has its own café. Located on Dominion Road, it serves up four different versions of its loaf—natural, herb, cinnamon or buckwheat, with a range of toppings that will have you salivating. There’s even a raw vanilla cheesecake spread on the menu—and it’s healthy!

The Food Truck Garage

The Food Truck Garage has long been a favourite healthy take on fast food. So, you can still get said burger and fries when the cravings kick in—rest assured that you’ll feel a little less guilty than usual. The burger bowl is our pick from Food Truck Garage, is basically a burger in a bowl (who would have thought!)

If you can’t tell by the name itself, Gainz is quite obviously a fitness-focused café. Located along Princess Wharf, you’ll be eating super clean at this café. With food offerings including four-egg-white omelettes with two yolks, ‘pumped up pancakes’ and ‘gainz on gainz’, it’s every weight lifters dream.
