Scooping out some of Sydney's best gelato, RivaReno Gelato is bringing authentic Italian desserts to the shores of Barangaroo. Prepare your stomachs, people! Gelato Messina have (unsurprisingly) gone above and beyond and are bringing you a dessert degustation to their OG home in Darlinghurst. With a seven-course menu made up entirely of dessert, which may seem like a sugary mountain to climb, but they assure us that it won't be like eating seven scoops of Messina in one sitting. Tarboosh Grill specialises in Lebanese chicken and lamb dishes galore. The highlight is definitely the special chilli, lemon and garlic sauce—seriously, smother us, baste us, roast us in it becuase this sauce does very good things. Everything here is served with dips and tabouli, so obviously these guys have their priorities in order and those priorities happen to align perfectly with ours.

Gelato Franco

Gelato Franco is the brainchild of Franco Riservato, the genius who made gelato at Leichhardt's Bar Italia for two decades… so he knows what’s up in the gelato world. This old school gelateria on Marrickville Road sells a tiramisu gelato that is an absolute life-changer (seriously). Tinged with coffee and topped with big hunks of chocolate sponge soaked in Sicilian Marsala wine (and then more coffee!), this is just a small scoop of the rich, smooth and creamy gelato on offer. The best bit? Franco makes each new flavour from scratch. Oh, and the serving sizes are something to be admired.

Omeio artisanal delicatessen recently opened its doors to the people of Paddington with a promise to provide top quality food that’s ethically and honestly sourced and sold (so it gets a big tick from us). The menu is based on whatever is in season, so while it changes daily, it never disappoints. The home-made, Greek-inspired meals (think moussake and spanakopita) taste so good that your yaiyai could have made them. Sourcing from local suppliers, Omeio combines the delicious flavours of Europe with the best produce Australia has on offer—a match we happen to think is made in heaven.

Pyrmont Bridge Hotel

The Pyrmont Bridge Hotel is just like your local pub, but with way better views over the city. Set in the middle of Pyrmont, the drinks flow all day long (it’s literally open 24/7), so it’s the perfect place to pre game before a night out, or to settle in for Friday drinks. Their happy hour runs from 5pm–6pm and you should probably grab one of their delicious share plates while you’re there. Order the PHB grazing board for a trio of dips with flat bread and some crispy chick wings, or if you’re working on that summer body, then go for their pumpkin, rocket, and haloumi salad doused in a tangy pomegranate dressing.

These guys have collected a heap of awards, giving them the reputation of Australia’s best seafood restaurant. Their philosophy is simple, they serve the freshest fish, exactly the way you like it prepared, which sounds like a pretty good deal to us. The blackboard at Garfish is constantly changing, featuring only the freshest market fish sourced that morning.

Tucked in Crows Nest, Bo Thai has all your Thai favourites, be it the pad Thai or the coconut milky goodness that is massaman curry. But if you’re after something a littleeeeee bit different, this place is sure to hit the spot. Well known to our Victorian friends, Dukes, the popular Melbourne coffee roasters have made the shift to Sydney, fiiiiiiiinally opening up at Barangaroo. If there was ever an award for environmentally considerate superstars, these guys should win it. They use ethical methods of sourcing the beans and can trace their coffee directly back to the plants. They also regularly donate 1% of the company’s sales to charities like the Belgian reforestation group, WeForest.

Inspired by the eclectic energy of Greenwich Village in the 1960s, Black Toast is a cafe located in one of Annandale’s converted 19th Century furniture factories. Complete with exposed beams, bricks and rustic wood furniture, this is where you need to head for a wholesome breakfast in the Inner West.
