It’s the weekend Auckland foodies have been waiting for—Taste of Auckland is now on, so head down to Western Springs to eat and drink yourself into blissful happiness. It’s a massive festival and we wouldn’t want you to miss the best, so here’s our list of five things you absolutely cannot miss at this year’s Taste of Auckland.
The sun’s out so keep your liquids up by grabbing a cold one from one of the great craft beer stands. Our pick: The Hawkes Bay Brewing Company Pilsner—bonus points for the beautiful bottle!
Speaking of liquids… you may want to move onto something stronger and more suited to enjoy with the food you’re devouring. Thankfully, there’s wines from all over New Zealand to try. Our pick: Gibbston Valley Rosé 2015—it looks as beautiful as it tastes. Perfect spring drop!
Finger lickin’ goodness awaits at not one, but two of the stands. The line at Miss Clawdy for their fried jerk chicken is testament to how damn delicious it is. But also make sure to try the chilli chicken wings served up by Miss Moonshines. These spicy bad boys are saucy as hell and we guarantee there’ll be plenty of mess, but rest assured: it’s so so worth it.
For some seriously smoky meats, go down to the Gourmet Hangi. Each session some of our city’s best chefs use this traditional Maori cooking method to create a plate of magic. How good do Ben Bayly’s steamed pork and duck buns sound for Saturday night?!
There are plenty of amazing sweet treats around (FISH caramel mousse, I’m looking you). But it’s the cookies that are the highlight. Everybody’s favourite cookie-makers, Moustache have teamed up with Kenwood and have a huge tent to grab some shade and indulge in some seriously good cookies. These girls are cookie geniuses and we can’t get enough of them.
