It seems like gin is really having its moment in the spotlight right now, and there’s no sign of it dimming anytime soon. From creative cocktails, to tasting events, and specialty gin bars popping up around the city, there’s never been a better time to be a fan of this flavourful distilled spirit. That is until we learnt that thanks to the good folks at East Imperial, Auckland’s best bars and restaurants will be donning their creative hats to make this tipple shine—all in the name of creating the best gin concoction.
Come October 25, for 15 days only, the Gin Jubilee will see 54 of Auckland’s hottest locations invite the public to discover new and exciting gin and tonic pairings, before voting for their favourite creation. So, brush up on you tasting notes knowledge, because this isn’t your average G&T situation—this is an opportunity to experience everything the constantly evolving gin world has to offer.
From boutique and locally made gins, to established, world renowned brands, each individual gin will be expertly paired with a complementary tonic to truly showcase its unique flavours—this is your chance to really earn your title as a gin connoisseur.
For those looking to broaden their gin horizons, there’s never been a better time, as this year’s bartenders have really pushed the boundaries of what we know gin to be. From hemp gin made by The Cannabis Co, to Blush’s pink boysenberry gin, and Rutte’s intriguing celery gin, one thing’s for sure, your tastebuds are in for a treat.
Let’s not forget that this is all in the name of competition, with the bar voted as creating the most loved cocktail winning a trip to LA and more importantly, East Imperial’s silver tankard. So, we don’t know about you, but this is the perfect excuse to try out as many entries as possible—it's all in the name of research, right? The jubilee culminates with a party at Lula Inn on 9 November where the public are invited to join industry professionals in trying out some of the best creations while also being front and centre when Auckland “Best Gin and Tonic” is announced.
So, clear out your Friday nights, hit up your crew, and let the celebrations be-gin!
