Meadow have mastered the art of the perfect smashed avo by combining feta, lemon and mint on multigrain toast. If you’re yet to try it, put it on the brunch bucket list.

Head out west for a truly awesome rendition of smashed av. When it comes to all-day eating, Black Cottage Café is a serious winner, and we can’t go past their smashed avocado, grilled asparagus, two poached eggs (organic AND free range), finished off with green hollandaise. Trust us, you’ve never had avo like this.

Catroux’s smashed avo will have you fuelled up for the day in no time. It sits on slices of wheat-free Midnight Baker bread alongside mozzarella, vine tomatoes, lemon oil, white balsamic and basil.

Sometimes it’s best to let the avo be the star. Bread & Butter keep things simple with poached egg, dukkah and watercress on grilled sourdough. Pair it with a couple of flatties and you’ve got yourself an eggcellent brekky.

Each and every one of Auckland’s smashed av lovers know that this is the place to go for one of the best versions in town. Goats chev, mint and chilli is the secret to Orphans Kitchen’s smashed avocado, which is served on two pieces of rye bread. It’s in a whole other league of delicious.

Twisted Tomato is a purveyor of all things delicious, but their avocado feta smash is a standout. While red pesto, grilled polenta, puffed spicy rice, a poached egg AND dukkah might seem like an unusual marriage of flavours, it really is an excellent dish. Add smoked salmon or free range bacon for a bit of protein.
Little Bird Unbakery

This combination is likely to surprise, but will definitely get you hooked. Little Bird’s sprouted bread is lovingly fashioned from sprouted millet, buckwheat, quinoa, chia, flax and coconut—you won’t find a healthier bread in Auckland. Enjoy it with smashed avocado, Japanese spice mix and tsukemono pickles.

Twins Carter and Harriet Were make some of the best bread in town, and their smashed avocado topping is damn tasty at any time of the day. The girls have a couple of options for you—sprouts, house made pickled veges and smoked salmon, or perhaps anchovies, parsley and lemons is more your thing. Whatever you pick, you’ll be getting the real deal at Were Bros.

You inner-city folk have sure got it good. Pilkingtons is the perfect place to get your smashed avo fix before tackling the day. Tomato, chilli, balsamic, rocket and black sesame on rye sourdough is a glorious combo, and with the option to add bacon, it’s one helluva smashed avo mash up.
