One of our favourite Kiwi exports—prolific filmmaker and actor Taika Waititi has got us all hyped after dropping the full trailer for his highly anticipated latest film Jojo Rabbit.
Bubbling with his signature humour and pathos, this anti-hate satire is set during World War II and follows a young German boy, Jojo, whose world is turned upside down when he discovers a young Jewish girl that his mother has been hiding in their attic. Upon meeting his new housemate, his naïve patriotism is challenged and entire world views are shifted. To help him figure out this strange and confusing situation at home is his only friend and one true ally... Adolf Hitler (well kind of). Jojo's wild imagination and lack of real-life friends results in the imaginary (not to mention incredibly historically inaccurate) version of Hitler that he has concocted in his mind.
Waititi is best known for his award-winning films Boy, Hunt for the Wilderpeople and What We Do In The Shadows and hot on the heels of directing Thor Ragnarok amongst a plethora of others he's set to continue his ever upwards trajectory with support from his stellar A-list cast. On the screen you’ll find the likes of Scarlett Johansson, Rebel Wilson, Sam Rockwell and of course Taika himself who plays his own hilarious and idiotic version of Adolf Hitler.
The trailer drops just days before the world premiere of the movie at the Toronto International Film Festival, check it out below to get a taste of what's in store when Jojo Rabbit hits NZ screens this October. We can't fucking wait.
