Michelle Obama, dressed in black, holds back tears as she hugs an emotional teenage girl.

We all need a little dose of hope and a good, solid hug right now. While we can’t deliver on the latter, we’ve found you the next best thing—Michelle Obama’s inspirational doco, and it’s coming to your screens next week. So basically, the former First Lady is here to save our souls just in time.

Becoming—named after Obama’s best-selling memoir—will offer an intimate look into Obama’s life during a moment of profound change, not only for her personally but for the country she and her husband lead for eight impactful years.

The flick will take viewers behind the scenes as Obama embarks on a 34-city book tour that highlights the power of community to bridge our divides and the spirit of connection that comes when we openly and honestly share our stories.

There’s rare, unseen footage, and pure raw emotion as Obama finds her feet, post-White House.

“So little of who I am happened in those eight years, so much of who I am, happened before,” she explains in the doco. “I’m figuring out what do I want to do? What do I care about?”

It’s also packed full of the inspirational words of wisdom we’ve come to love her for, so you might want to keep the tissues close.

Check out the goosebump-inducing trailer below.

Becoming drops on Netflix Wednesday 6 May at 5pm AEST and 8pm in New Zealand.
