Ponsonby is home to an abundance of outstanding restaurants and bars, but sometimes all you need is a bloody good bagel and a silky, strong coffee. The newly opened Roost in Ponsonby’s Vinegar Lane is here to serve exactly that.
Fans of Vulcan Lane Bagels will be pleased to hear that one of its main men, Ruben Maurice is part of the Roost crew alongside Wayne Schuler and Shaun Marlo. Rocking up to the hole-in-the-wall however, you’re likely to be met by Adam and Paris, the lovely duo responsible for rustling up the edible goods.
At Roost you’ll find classic bagel creations—think marmite, vegemite, and Nutella—as well as a few heartier options such as smashed avo or smoked salmon (rumour has it that Vulcan Lane’s famous pulled pork bagel will eventually be making its way to Roost). Or, if you’re pressed for time, there’s plenty of Scratch Bakers goodies in the cabinet.
Concrete clad and minimalist on the outside with the smell of bagels and Atomic Coffee wafting out the open windows, Roost is decked out with wooden surfaces to lean on while you sip on a long black and sample one of their bagels. Roost will fast become a go-to Ponsonby spot for caffeine and a quick bite to eat, so be sure to check it out before the crowds emerge.
