Look, 2020 has served up a shedload of crappy news. From COVID to border closures, we’re in serious need of some good news and thankfully Taylor Swift is here to deliver it.
While the release of her last album, Lover, involved an international Easter egg hunt, in true 2020-style, Swift has delivered the news of her surprise eighth studio album in the form of a mic drop.
Simply posting a black and white pic of herself on Instagram, Swift informed her legion of adoring fans (ok, we’re kinda one of them) that her new album Folklore, will be dropping in the US at midnight tonight—which is 2pm AEST for Australia and 4pm for New Zealand.
Swift wrote on Insta, “Most of the things I had planned this summer didn’t end up happening, but there is something I hadn’t planned on that DID happen. And that thing is my 8th studio album, Folklore. Surprise.”
She went on to say, "Before this year I probably would’ve overthought when to release this music at the ‘perfect’ time, but the times we’re living in keep reminding me that nothing is guaranteed. My gut is telling me that if you make something you love, you should just put it out into the world. That’s the side of uncertainty I can get on board with."
The album, which she wrote and recorded in isolation, will feature 16 new beats, while a deluxe edition will also include a bonus track called The Lakes.
Swift will also be dropping the music video for her first song on the album, Cardigan, some time today. She revealed the entire production was overseen by a medical inspector and she even did her own hair and make up for it.
