This year’s Laneway Festival was exceptionally epic, and the 2016 gig at Silo Park is set to be no different. SO. GET. EXCITED.
Expecting 12,000 Auckland music lovers, the boutique festival will see a cracking line-up of talent—both established and emerging—take to the stage for a day of beats, eats, and sunshine (fingers crossed!).
To help you have the best Laneway 2016 experience possible, here are our top picks for acts and food.
From electronica to get ya grooving and boundary-pushing hip-hop to catchy pop and punk, there is something for everyone at Laneway 2016. Beach House, Flume, Grimes, Courtney Barnett and Hermitude are the much-anticipated favourites, but make sure your ears experience these acts, too.
This Canadian electronic duo creates music with catchy tempos and hauntingly beautiful lyrics. One of their more popular songs, ‘push pull’, will be awesome to hear live.
A Brooklyn-based rock band with a knack for shambolic yet captivating music. Listen out for ‘Doused’.
‘Just so you know, yes, yes I’m a guy.’ This dude will intrigue Laneway with his colourful get up and ‘androgynous’ voice.
Odd Future members, Syd the Kyd and Matt Martians have joined musical forces with four others to create ‘acid jazz’ music with a whole lotta soul.
Laneway foodie fuel
You’ll need a full tum and plenty of hydration to power you through Laneway Festival 2016. Thankfully, some of Auckland’s best food vendors will be setting up camp at Silo Park to serve festival staples as well as a handful of other delicious fare. Here’s where we’ll be getting our noms and dranks from:
Laneway is on a Monday and every Monday must begin with coffee. Atomic will be there for all your caffeinated needs. If you’re after something on the cooler side, Crocky’s Cold Brew is for you. Pick up your alcoholic beverages from The Vivian Wine Bar, where ice-cold boutique vinos will be poured.
Burgers, dogs, and everything in between
Grab your burgers from Burger Burger and The Bearded Clam, or opt for a Brooklyn Dogs’ dog and something from The Roaming Dive to tide you over. Ponsonby favourite, Fatimas, will also be there—what would a festival be without potato koftas?
