What's On

This Weekend In Sydney

By Lucy Cook
29th Jan 2015

We know how hard you work (and play) throughout January, so this weekend is packed full of easy, breezy, and fun things to do in Sydney, to get you out of the house exploring the city. Relax and enjoy the cultural events summer in Sydney has to offer.

Thursday 29th

O’Neill Sydney Surf Film Festival

For your beach and culture fix all rolled into one fun package, be sure to check out the inaugural O’Neill Sydney Surf Film Festival this weekend. Over 2 weeks at Manly’s ICMS and the Bondi Pavillion on Bondi Beach, the beachside communities will truly highlight everything that makes Australian beach culture the best in the world, with incredible surf–related film, art, and music events to enjoy.

Friday 30th

Penguins Of Madagascar Sunset Cinema

Finish off the workweek by letting your inner child roam free! Head North-side to the Sunset Cinema at North Sydney oval to check out ‘Penguins of Madagascar’. The best characters from all the ‘Madagascar’ films finally have the spotlight firmly on them and if the trailer is anything to go by, it’s going to be hilarious. Pack a picnic or grab some pizza on site and let all your grown-up problems wash away… A glass of wine or two might help as well.

Saturday 31st

UNDR Ctrl’s Summer Rooftop Series

The rooftop at Kings Cross Hotel is fast becoming one of our favourite Sydney rooftop bars this summer with the UNDR Ctrl series killing it every Saturday night. Make your way up to enjoy Canyons, Marcus King, and Adi Toohey and if you get there before 10pm, entry is free!

Sunday 1st

Rock n Roll & Alternative Market

We can’t go past a good themed market and the Rock n Roll & Alternative Market is a classic. Part market, part music festival, part meeting place, it’s a place where you can have one of Sydney’s most unique shopping experiences. Browse the different stalls to find vintage clothing, jewellery, accessories, make-up, vinyl records, rock posters, cult DVDs, and tiki’s, or pamper yourself with a visit to the retro hair and make-up stylists or traditional barber. With live entertainment and a great courtyard with plenty of food, it’s a fun day out for the whole family.

Tuesday 3rd

Balla Regional Dinner Series

Stefano Manfredi and the Balla team are kicking off their Italian Regional Dinner Series for 2015 with a Calabrian-inspired feast. The menu includes a number of Calabrian specialities including Cuttlefish with salsa picante, Calabrese-style lamb shoulder with onion, olives, and pancetta, and Chocolate & hazelnut truffle. As if that hasn’t already got your mouth watering, you’ll be able to take home a recipe for the main dish of the night to impress all your friends and family, giving you reason to boast for weeks to come!
