Perfectly executed fried chicken is something hard to come by, but fortunately, Wellington has been #blessed with a number of establishments that know what they’re doing and are doing it well. Lucky is one of those places—known for its early-morning crowds, cheerful squad, gravy fries and most of all its reliably delicious chicken burgers.
They’ve only been around for a couple of years but since then they’ve become deservedly popular, earning a huge place in Wellingtonian's hearts. Long lines and crowds surround the hole-in-the-wall on Courtenay place all hours of the day and night.
Their menu is comprised of just a handful of items, each one hitting the spot just right. The buns are soft and the chicken is the perfect combo of crispy and juicy. It’s saucy and naughty and you get all the grease without any of the regrets (sorry KFC). Plus it tastes just as good at lunchtime as it does at 1am—what’s not to love?
It’s not just chicken that Lucky has mastered either. They’ve become a city fave amongst vegetarians and meat-eaters alike with their ‘happy burger’—a big slab of fried halloumi sandwiched between soft buns, slaw, and spicy honey. Oh yes.
The high demand has prompted the lovely lot at Lucky to open up shop once again, and this time you won’t be battling with the winds or fighting the rain trying to demolish your burger outside. Oh no.
You’ll find the new location inside Press Hall eatery where you’ll be able to sit uninterruptedly and direct all your attention to enjoying the goods. The Press Hall location will be Lucky’s home for around for 3-4 months (but we’re crossing our fingers it’ll become a permanent thing). Grab a napkin, sit down dinners at Lucky are our new weeknight treat. Plan your date night now and get Lucky.
