Some things just go together, like PB and jelly, and Posh and Becks, so this year we’ve teamed up with MINI to bring you, our discerning readers and drivers, our fortnightly MINI Fave 5 series: The must-try guide to Brisbane celebrating the launch of the new MINI 5-door hatch!
SO WHO'S ON OUR HIT LIST OF BRISBANE'S BEST BAKERIES?
There is rarely a start to the day more revelled in than a buttery croissant, no snack better than an artisan brownie and surely no better lunch than a stuffed bagel. And every meal can be improved with a good slice of sourdough.
So leave that sad, squashed, generic loaf of white bread in the bottom of your supermarket trolley, because we've collected our Fave 5 Brisbane bakeries for all your wheaty treats.
Chouquette in New Farm is always a crowd pleaser, and one of the best bakeries in Brisbane, with its fine aroma of fresh bread, smiling staff, and sunny atmosphere. The pastries are as French as they come, and the tartes of mango cremeux and white chocolate and coconut gelee are irresistible, but can be justified after a magnificent wild rice and kale salad.
While Brewbakers is inconspicuously tucked away behind a garage roller door in Albion, it attracts a steady stream of bypassers, and brings in crowds of regulars from all over, looking to acquire the perfect rye loaf or crusty levain. The bakery-cafe whips up exceptional sweets too, so make sure to grab a jam doughnut and a sourdough brownie for the road.
The Baker’s Arms
The adorable Gabba haunt, The Baker’s Arms would ideally be a daily expedition considering all the irresistible, freshly baked treats that constantly appear. Expect anything from a chocolate buttermilk fudge cake to vegan lasagne from this Brisbane bakery, and grab a bottle of lemon or passionfruit butter to keep you going until your next visit.
Flour & Chocolate
Toblerone Gonuts, Nutella Brownies and Salted Caramel Cronuts has the town talking about (and lining up outside of) Flour & Chocolate. While sweet treats are definitely the star of this Brisbane bakery’s show, savoury scrolls and quiches are not to be overlooked. Why not have both?
With ingredients sourced as locally as possible, and each loaf carefully hand-crafted by the extremely credentialed Danny Mikus, it’s hard not to feel the love in each bite of intricately made bread. A very welcome new addition to the Newstead scene, the Danny’s Bread divinely decadent brownies tempt Urban List staffers on the daily. The sourdough pizzas and sweet sticky buns are also rising to be firm favourites—easily one of the best bakeries in Brisbane.
We're thrilled to partner with MINI to bring you our Fave 5 series—our fortnightly guide to the best of the best in Brisbane. From food to fashion, Campari to Crossfit, each Fave 5 edition is researched and recommended by The Urban List, and driven by the new MINI 5-Door Hatch—putting the city at your fingertips and giving you the freedom to explore it!
