No matter the cuisine, Northbridge has you covered, which is why we count ourselves very lucky that we get to work in one of Perth’s densest food ‘burbs. With almost every Asian flavour under the sun, pizza joints, Greek goodies and a whole lot of fried goodness, you could happily spend all of your days in this busy side of town.
Here are all of the Northbridge restaurants you need to try now.
I get asked for restaurant recommendations A LOT and usually one of the first places to spring to mind is Sauma. Think delicious Indian street food, in a beautiful light-filled and relaxed environment right in the heart of Northbridge. Sauma’s onion bhaji is freakin’ amazing and their tender and sticky twice-cooked tamarind lamb ribs are lip-smackingly delicious. Go for dinner, an express tiffin at lunch (for a very reasonable $14) or a Punjabi chai—you won’t be disappointed!
Shadow Wine Bar
Tucked underneath Northbridge’s coolest hotel, The Alex, Shadow Wine Bar is well known for their classic Euro menu and moreish wine list. Open from lunch to dinner during the week and brunch to dinner on the weekends, if you’re looking for a fancier Northbridge option, this is your place. The lamb osso bucco will make your mouth orgasm, the Shark Bay crab spaghettini is so fresh and so tasty and obviously, the cheeseboards are one of our favourite things to order.
Bivouac Canteen & Bar
One of the most difficult places to pick a menu fave in Northbridge, Bivouac is the best for casual, yet exceedingly delicious dining. The ginormous Malawach tacos with soft shell crab, pickles and red pepper are to die for, as is the eggplant served with halloumi and ras el-hanout. If you’re going with a big group, we highly recommend sharing to avoid food envy. When it comes to Northbridge restaurants, this is easily one of the best!
Francoforte Spaghetti Bar
If you’re looking for some of the best pasta in Perth, you’ll find it in Northbridge, tucked down Williams Lane at Francoforte Spaghetti Bar. Serving pasta just like Nonna makes it, this Italian joint is BYO—thanks legends! Urban List favourites include the guanciale carbonara with cured pigs’ cheek and pecorino and the porco rosso with sugo, pork sausage and Grana Padano parmesan (add extra N’duja sausage, you won’t regret it).
Meat Candy is dishing out some finger lickin' fried chicken, and it's no surprise considering Ben Atkinson—the culinary genius and former chef at The Old Crow and Cantina 663—is at the helm! Apart from the fried chicken, you can expect plenty of smoked meats and a heap of good booze—we’ve got a thing for the bloody mary’s made with house smoked tomato juice.
Nestled in between The Chippery & Co and The Hummus Club, Comet Pizza is in a beautiful heritage-listed building which was once a residence so it has a homely feel, but with all of the delicious pizza. The hand-rolled dough is made using traditional Neapolitan techniques and you can customise your own pizza with a range of fresh toppings so you can get it exactly how you like it!
There’s nothing like a fried feast, especially when paired with beer. When you want some of the best, Chimek in Northbridge is the place to go. While it’s pretty hard to pass up their Instafamous charcoal beef burger, you owe it to yourself to order a big ol’ serving of southern fried chicken or the tasty sweet and sticky gochujiang chicken. Heck, just order everything.
With two locations in Northbridge, Is Donburi’s tasty bento boxes, donburi and udon noodles are always close by. The teriyaki fish don is sticky, delicious and served with a yummy pickled salad, but if you’re after something a little different we recommend the kimchi do.
Pleased To Meet You
A little piece of NYC right here in Perth, Northbridge haunt Pleased to Meet You is a stylish bar and restaurant that hits all the right spots—from the warmly lit dining hall to the Central and South American inspired share plates. Dig into some suckling pig and the deconstructed S’mores at one of the communal long tables.
The Standard is one of our favourite Northbridge hangouts when it comes to tasty nom noms. We’re particularly fond of the pressed lamb belly and cured loin with native plum, pickled kohlrabi and corn bread, and the slow cooked beef shin with rendang glaze, peanuts, coconut and cauliflower rice. Yum!
This place should not be called ‘Okay Vietnamese’. It should be called ‘Friggen Amazing Vietnamese That’s So Good I Want To Go Every Night’. That probably won’t fit on the sign on their door though… If you try this Northbridge joint out you'll want to order the pho of course. Expect a big bowl of delicious, hearty, traditional pho for only $11.50. Pho-nomenal.
Lucky Chan’s Laundry + Noodle Bar
With the kitchen open until 2am there’s no better place for late night eats in Northbridge than Lucky Chan’s Laundry + Noodle Bar. We can't get enough of their bao (especially the karaage chicken), the Chans chow down ramen (braised pork cheek, spicy ref miso, broccolini and sweet tomato) and the sweet pork dumplings.
We’re yet to find a single thing on the menu at La Cholita that we don’t like. From the tostadas and tacos to the quesadillas and entradas, each visit to this Northbridge haunt is a Mexican fiesta to remember. We’re pretty obsessed with their slow cooked pork and pineapple tacos, chorizo quesadillas and guacamole with house made corn tortilla chips! Plus, they’ve got more than 100 varieties of tequila!
This retro diner-style pizzeria has found itself a happy home in Northbridge and with tons of scrumptious pizzas to choose from as well as antipasto and pasta. Inspired by the authentic aromas, taste and craftsmanship of pizza found on the streets of Naples, the pizza at Dough is top notch. They also have some seriously delish dessert pizzas like the Nutella Calzone—a folded pizza filled with Nutella and walnuts and served with a scoop of vanilla gelato. Say what?!
Old Lane Street Eats
If you're after delicious and cheap South-East Asian delicacies look no further than Old Lane Street Eats in Northbridge. The menu at this little China Town eatery really packs a punch with everything from bao, satay and curry dishes to juicy noodles and fragrant rice. Do your tastebuds a favour and order the Roti John (a chilli-cheeseburger-tasting bun filled with beef, egg, onion, sambal, Sriracha and kewpie mayo) and the Marmite Chicken Bao (boneless chicken, cucumber, carrot, spring onion, kewpie and Marmite sauce). You won't be disappointed!
Deen Street BBQ
For ribs galore and all of the tasty American eats look no further than Northbridge’s Deen Street BBQ. Whether it’s the smok’n hot chicken wings, Porky Pig BBQ sandwich or a whopping 300g serving of pork ribbies, Deen Street does not disappoint. Order up big on the sides (they’ve got mac ‘n’ cheese and hush puppies!) and don’t forget to save room for dessert—warm pecan pie with vanilla ice cream.
For a super authentic Japanese dining experience, Bonsai have you covered. Grab some friends and head to this lovely eatery on Roe Street for some of their delectable cold, hot or fried shares, like the wagyu beef tataki, niku-jaka cottage pie (diced wagyu stew baked with mashed potatoes) and the deep-fried chilli crab claws. Bonsai also have a selection of tasty mains if you’re not in the mood for sharing, as well as some tasty sushi.
Who doesn’t love the cheesey, filo deliciousness that is Greek food? For some of the best in Perth you’ll want to head directly to Brika. We can’t get enough of their spanakopita, saganaki, hummus and slow cooked lamb. If you’re after something quick and delicious for lunch Brika whip up some amazing gyros stuffed with slow cooked meats and chips. Yum!
The Old Crow
The Old Crow in Northbridge pumps out some insanely awesome fare. Think bacon bruschetta with avocado, poached eggs and roasted tomatoes for breakfast, buttermilk chicken burgers for lunch and slow cooked lamb with potatoes and tzatziki sauce for dinner for dinner. You’d be mad to leave without trying the dirty potatoes side dish, covered in jalapenos, ranch and parmesan.
More insanely good Japanese food can be found at Aisuru Sushi in the heart of Northbridge on William Street. Pull up a stool and watch the sushi masters work their magic while you wait for your meal to arrive. The Plum Flower Roll (chicken teriyaki and avocado with special plum sauce) is a thing of beauty, as is the Spider Roll (tempura soft-shell crab, cucumber and lettuce). If you’re after something a little crazier the Baconator won’t disappoint—fresh asparagus, tomato and finely sliced red onion sushi wrapped up with flamed bacon and topped with tamago egg, mustard dressing and pepper.
Simple and delicious Italian fare is the name of the game at No Mafia. Their modern approach to traditional Italian fare places an emphasis on local produce, taking inspiration from the recipes of Southern Italy. Grab a table at the front of the restaurant and people watch while you wait for your antipasti and wine to arrive.
Poutine, pork doughnuts and beer bread are just some of the delicacies served up at Baby Mammoth, alongside some of Perth’s best cocktails of course! A stalwart of the menu is their ‘Bunny Chow’—a traditional South African dish consisting of a hollowed out loaf of bread filled with curry and other modern South African goodies—get on it!
The Hummus Club
The Hummus Club dishes out amazing beef kibbeh, zaatar fried chicken, falafel and big bowls of hummus. You’ll also want to get your hands on those life-changing doughnuts with orange and chocolate or the chocolate halva brownie topped with fairy floss. You. Are. Welcome.
Bangkok Brothers on James Street in Northbridge is serving up all your usual fave dishes like duck curry and papaya salad. They’re also doing amazing desserts and a few breakfast dishes too, just to keep you on your toes.
Young Love Mess Hall
Young Love Mess Hall might just be the most beautiful venue in the whole of Perth. With lush greenery everywhere you look, the most stunning booths we’ve ever seen and one heck of a feature wall, you’re going to be pretty pleased with yourself when you arrive. Get yourself an Aperol with grapefruit soda and the Japanese Succotache and you’ll be pretty pleased with yourself when you leave too.
And when you’re done, here are Perth's Best Restaurants In The CBD.
