Paddington has a new Thai spot, and it comes to us from a talented kitchen duo—Bowyo Muangsong, co-owner of Newstead’s Ping Pong and executive chef at Yolk and Morning After, and her brother Yew. Meaning ‘come and taste it’ in Thai, Ma Chim is all about traditional Thai recipes inspired by the pair’s chef mum, dished up in a stylish but relaxed space on Baroona Road.

Cloudland Garden

After 15 years as the epicentre and long time favourite of Fortitude Valley’s party scene, Cloudland, has just had a major makeover, transforming their entire bottom floor into 200-seat Mediterranean-inspired Garden restaurant. Single O is one of Sydney's OG purveyors of fine bean juice. These guys have been championing and cheering caffeine in all its finer formats since 2003 and their pint-sized Surry Hills cafe was one of the spots where Sydney’s coffee culture really kicked off. The market for breakfast burgers has just expanded, with the Gold Coast's Two Yolks bringing their egg and bacon-loaded buns to South Brisbane from Monday 3 June. If you and your crew are the kind of friend group that can never decide on one cuisine for your dinner plans, a new venue that will solve all your problems has landed in the Chinatown Mall in the Valley. Coming to us from the team behind Buttery Boy, the pancake spot right next door, Mr Duncan is a massive restaurant and bar that features not one but four different kitchens, each with entirely unique menus. The collective-style concept means everyone in your group can order something completely different and eat them together—ideal for anyone with totally different tastes to their friends.

Sushi Jiro

All aboard the (sushi) train—Sushi Jiro has arrived at Westfield Chermside and is dishing up high-quality Japanese cuisine with a dining experience that is a new take on an old classic. While Sushi Jiro has over 20 venues in Victoria, this is their first Brisbane venture, and they’ve levelled up with the longest sushi train in the southern hemisphere, measuring an impressive 115 metres and seating 170. Just last year the Japanese brand unveiled the world’s first circular sushi training, spanning 30.6 metres, in Meblourne’s Westfield Doncaster, so they're accustomed to bringing the wow factor to their venues.

If you're well-acquainted with Uncle Don in either Paddington or West End, then brace yourself for the new Woolloongabba edition, which is sleeker and bigger than ever. If you, like us, shed a tear when Fatcow Steak & Lobster closed its doors in preparation for the demolition of Eagle Street Pier, we have good news. The Tassis Group has found a new location for their much-lauded steak restaurant, and it’s in the heart of James Street. Taking over 10 James Street, previously home to Space Furniture and David Jones, Fatcow has had a lavish glow-up in keeping with its new location, featuring two private dining rooms and circular booths surrounded by floor-to-ceiling curtains with mirrors on the ceiling above.

Yet another stellar venue from the Tassis Group, who you’ll already know from Opa, Massimo, Fosh, Rich & Rare and the soon to open Fat Cow & Lobster, Longwang has just landed in the CBD, dishing up contemporary Asian fare to the masses. This stunning, two-and-a-half level, three-metre-wide venue has to be seen to be believed—wedged between two skyscrapers on Edward Street, it's a marvel of engineering, complete with retractable roofs on the top level for dining in the sun.
