Shiver through the last of Melbourne’s winter with Stonnington’s Glow Winter Arts Festival. Running from the 13th to the 23rd August, the Prahran event, complete with an open-air ice rink, free film screenings and heaps of live performances, is perfect to keep you powering through the cold weather.

Showcasing anything and everything under the arts umbrella, there will certainly be enough happening at one of Melbourne’s biggest winter events to entertain crowds. Live comedy, outdoor cinemas, open-air ice-skating, food trucks and roving entertainment are just some of the highlights guaranteed to please.

Among the budget-friendly activities is the Flick + Feast series, running every Friday and Saturday night. Screening four much-loved cinematic classics across four nights, settle into Stonnington’s free pop-up outdoor cinema. Every film is paired with a complementing cuisine. For example, the 15 of August will see Spirited Away fans munching on Melbourne’s best Asian food trucks. Blue Hawaii (1961), Bride & Prejudice (2004) and The Italian Job (1969) will also be showing.

The festival’s open-air ice skating rink, set up in the centre of Prahran, is also on our hit list. Surrounded by performances, live music and plenty of food stalls, your next date night or outing with mates is sorted.

If you’re in need of a laugh, we’ve got you covered! For a fraction of the usual ticket price, head over to Chapel Off Chapel for the return of Comedy Club. The line up includes some of Melbourne’s biggest names including Tommy Little, Dave Thornton and Cal Wilson.

But you may need to do some exploring to find the best gems in one of Melbourne’s biggest artistic collaborations. Live performances will be popping up in Stonnington’s laneways, car parks and side streets, with the Gertrude Street Projection Festival team set to make an appearance, lighting up Greville Street with an exhibition of shapes, colour and light. Follow the crowds if you’re new, and you’re unlikely to go wrong.
