10 Of The Weirdest Beauty Treatments On The Coast

Beauty is pain, ladies. We, of the the fairer sex, have been known to do some strange stuff in the name of beauty—placenta hair treatments, nibbly fish pedicures, bee venom face masks…

And while we know our value lies in WAY more than the way we look, sometimes we just want to shrug off our responsibilities and spend our hard-earned cash on a ridiculous beauty fad.

Here’s 10 of the weirdest beauty treatments on the Sunshine Coast:

1. Vampire Facial | Cosmetic Studio

If we’re talking weird beauty treatments, we may as well jump right in there with the undead daddy of weirdness—the Vampire Facial. “Errrrr… what the what now?” I hear you ask. Well, it’s actually pretty much as intense as it sounds. Your own blood is collected, the serum is extracted, and it’s injected with a super-fine needle into your skin. Don’t worry, it doesn’t hurt, your skin is numbed before any injecting takes place! But if you aren’t up for something quite so challenging, Cosmetic Studio’s very own registered nurse and aesthetic genius, Maddie is the go-to girl for Coast women in the know, for her light, natural touch with fillers and anti-wrinkle treatments.

2. Floating | Float Space, Maroochydore

You know how some days you just want to shut out the world completely? Well, get your float on! Floating allows you complete sensory deprivation (but not the torture kind. The relaxy kind). No gravity, no light, no sound, no sensation. Floating is the latest relaxation technique that involves hundreds of kilograms of Epsom salts dissolved in warm water in a dark, enclosed pod. It’s like floating in the sea, but you’re WAY more buoyant, so you don’t need any effort to stay afloat. Relax, de-stress, and get the benefit of four hours of sleep in just a one-hour float at Float Space. Definitely one of the weirdest beauty treatments on the Sunshine Coast, but that’s kinda why we’re digging it.

3. Dead Sea Mud Wrap | Noosa Springs Spa

I always thought a mud treatment was like what you see in cheesy Hollywood movies—a deep bath, where you slide, chin-deep into thick, dark oozy warm mud. Usually with cucumbers over your eyes. Apparently, in real life, this would be a kinda gross bacterial breeding ground, so it’s done a bit more hygienically these days. At Noosa Springs Spa, your body is painted with purifying Dead Sea Mud, full of minerals and mucky goodness, and you’re wrapped like a cocoon and gently steamed in a warm, capsule. Experience this, and you’ll totally know what it means to relax and de-stress.

4. Sugaring | Asante Day Spa

Sugar isn’t just something that goes in your tea—or around your Negroni glass! It’s an ancient (and virtually painless) hair removal technique. Gentler than waxing, without the heat, your therapist will use a ball of sticky toffee to remove hair from anywhere and everywhere you can possibly imagine. And as an added bonus, Asante Day Spa’s two gorgeous cats are totally up for a cuddle if you arrive at the salon a bit early for your appointment!

5. Paraffin Wax Treatment | Nails@Noosa

This unusual but really effective treatment will give you the odd experience of slightly corpsey-looking feet. But don’t worry, it’s totally temporary. You definitely have to add this treatment to your next pedicure at Nails@Noosa. Your technician will soak your feet, then drip warm paraffin wax over your tootsies and wrap them for quarter of an hour. When the wax is peeled off, you will be left with pink, moisturised, baby-soft feet.

6. Lash Lift | Noosa Brow Co.

We all know you can get your lashes thickened and darkened and lengthened, but did you know that you can also get them curled? A “lash lift” at Noosa Brow Co. uses a modern version of the old-school perm treatment, with silicone moulds to curl your lashes upwards and open and widen your eyes. Perfect to make those peepers pop.

7. aliangé Gold Lumino Facial | Cozmedics

When a regular beauty treatment just isn’t luxe enough for you, make an appointment at Cozmedics for this pure gold facial treatment. This indulgent mask has 24-carat crushed gold (seriously!), crushed pearl, and even jellyfish extract. I kid you not. Stimulating collagen production to help your skin renew itself, not only is this is one of the weirdest beauty treatments on the Sunshine Coast, but it’ll give you a million dollar glow. Wink.

8. Javanese Turmeric Massage | Ikatan Spa

Have you ever thought to yourself, “hey, you know what? My massage treatment doesn’t have enough curry ingredients in it.” Well, if you’re looking for a massage that’s full of coconut, turmeric, cinnamon, and lime, then Ikatan is the place for you. Their treatments smell delicious and feel even more heavenly. And the tranquil Balinese gardens? The cheapest trip to Indo you’ll ever fork out for.

9. Coffee Enema | Inner Beauty Colon hydrotherapy

I don’t know about you, but I can’t start the day without coffee. A steady supply is also pretty essential to my continuing ability to function at any level of competency. But, boring as it may be, I tend to ingest my coffee orally. Like, via my mouth. Exclusively. Apparently ingesting your coffee from errrrr… the other end… is a thing at Inner Beauty. There’s some kind of semi-sciencey-sounding explanations about the liver and bile and “detoxing”, but the long and the short of it is, someone squirts coffee up your bum with a hose. I’ll be honest with you, I’m not sure what else I can add to explain the weirdness here…

10. Signature Oxygen Infusion | Sheer Bliss Beauty

Using oxygen for breathing is sooooo passé. Sheer Bliss Beauty uses advanced oxygen therapy techniques to regenerate and hydrate your skin. Combining oxygen therapy with other treatments like peels and microdermabrasion, can help even out your complexion and reduce pigmentation, too. Sounds like someone (*cough* me) may have to try it out soon.
