Big reveals don’t come much better than this. After holding our tongues for months (remember this?), we can finally divulge all the epicness that is Bar Deco, a new Belgian beer and wine garden.
Tucked in Yandina, away from swarming coastal towns, Bar Deco is a welcome contradiction to the Sunshine Coast’s bright, light and beachy restaurant scene we’ve come to know and love.
Let’s just say that if you were to Google “ambience” in the Urban Dictionary, we reckon Bar Deco would be right there beside it. This place oozes it.
Getting the keys in mid-2018, the owners undertook a 10-month renovation that saw this rundown main street location turned into a sleek, destination restaurant worth travelling for.
In harmony with Yandina’s old-school vibes, the interior alone is timeless, effortlessly sexy and does a fine job of solidifying this place as somewhere you’ll totally want to hang out. It features custom-made Royal blue booths that are perfect to gather on for a dinner with friends, panelled walls coated in a lush teal paint, French doors that open onto the beer garden and a knockout dark timber bar, complete with brushed gold accents and lightboxes. Plus, deep pendant lights create a tunnel of soft glow on each individual table, totally upping the romance factor to next-level. Basically, if we were to rate this place on the atmosphere alone, we’d be dishing up a big, fat 10.
And while you now might visit for the intimate vibes, we can guarantee you’ll be staying for the epic cocktails, handpicked and self-imported beers and wines, and the European-style food (seasonal menu). It’s a winning combination that will have you calling Bar Deco next time you’re on the hunt for the perfect date-night restaurant or cosy catch-up with close friends.
One look at the small but mighty menu and pretty much everything from the Belgian beef stew with Belgian dark ale, Filet Mignon coated in a creamed forest mushroom sauce, to the delectable chicken vol au vent will jump out at you.
Our favourite, along with that of loyal Bar Deco fans, is the traditional mussels, served in your choice of sauce—French white wine and celery, creamy garlic, French red wine with tomato and basil, or the blue cheese and spinach sauce—and golden Belgian frites. We honestly haven’t had mussels this good outside of France.
Save room for dessert, because Bar Deco serves up night-changing sweets. From an impressive Crème Brulee to Brussels Waffles with vanilla bean ice cream, salted toffee and fresh mint, and a decadent Hazelnut Chocolate Fondant, these are dishes you’re not going to want to share.
We’ve been told of plans to host live music in the beer garden on Sundays and occasionally an all-you-can-eat Swiss cheese raclette weekend, and if Bar Deco’s undeniable success so far is any driver, we cannot wait to see it continue to grow, adding another layer of depth to the after-dark scene, away from the coastline.
Bar Deco is now open in Yandina, Friday through Sunday, from 11am until late (kitchen is open all day long). Go hunt them down this weekend and tell them we sent you.
