Cheese. Need I say more?
I mean I will, because, let’s be honest, we all know that verbose and rambling is just how I roll, but I don’t really NEED to, do I? Because… well… cheese.
With crackers or in a curry or melted on a burger—from fresh, sweet white curd to stinky gorgonzola to bubbling melty fontina, I’ve never met a cheese I didn’t eat. Like, immediately.
So here are a bunch of our faves from some of the best restaurants on the Sunshine Coast.
Burrata, Prosciutto, Fichi | Locale
You might think you know cheese. You might think you like cheese. You might even think you know most of the cheese out there. But if you’ve never tried burrata, you’ve truly never lived. This super-fresh curd cheese looks deceptively like a ball of mozzarella, but under its unassuming exterior, it’s filled with sweet, fresh cream and curd. Locale serves it with figs, prosciutto and basil, and it’s a revelation.
All Of The Cheese | Maleny Cheese
If you’re having a craving, then get your cheese on and go straight to the source—the mother lode of cheesy goodness for the entire Sunshine Coast, Maleny Cheese. These guys start with fresh local milk and cream and it all just gets better from there. Raclette, deep fried brie, and if you’re feeling a bit retro, put on your flares and order a fondue. Mouth. Watering.
Quattro Formaggi Pizza | Italian Marina
Most people think that the French have cornered the market on cheese, but I’m inclined to think the Italians have actually nailed it. Put this theory to the test and head down to the Italian Marina at Tewantin and check out their Quattro Formaggi pizza, with mozzarella, gorgonzola, fontina, and parmesan. And best of all, your pizza is rolled right in front of you by the gorgeous Davide (that’s “Davi-DAY”—pronounce it properly and tell him we sent you!) and cooked in the biggest traditional Italian pizza oven you’ve ever seen.
Baked Goats Cheese | Pitchfork
We can always rely on the crew at Pitchfork to mix things up with some pretty amazing pairings. Baked goat’s cheese with honey walnut truffle dressing might not be the most obvious combo for a starter, but it totally works. And to keep up the theme, make cheesy jokes with your bestie while you share the strawberry labna with moscato jelly for dessert.
Palak Paneer | Deepak Indian
This might not seem like the most obvious cheese choice, but next time you’re up in the Noosa Hinterland, check out this local gem. A vegetarian’s BFF, the paneer at Deepak’s is a fresh, light cottage cheese that comes in a spicy spinach sauce. Order a dhal and some naan, and I promise you won’t even realise you didn’t have meat with your dinner.
Cheesecake | From our faves
Are you a sweet tooth? Or a savoury lover? Well get the best of both worlds by combining two of our favourite things—cheese AND cake. Dive into the best cheesecakes on the Sunshine Coast. If these don’t take you to heaven and back, then we don’t know what will.
Mac ‘n’ Three Cheeses | Dirty Moes
Dirty Moes is the Coast’s go-to place for American comfort food, and their epic mac ‘n’ cheese is a world away from the yellow, gluey instant supermarket stuff. A creamy sauce of blue cheese, American cheddar, and mozzarella is poured over the pasta, then as it goes into the oven, it’s topped with even MORE cheese. A bowl of this bubbly, creamy goodness is perfect to warm your cockles on these last few chilly winter nights.
Grass Fed Beef Burger | Hello Harry
You can’t go past a classic. And an old-school cheeseburger with pickles and American cheese is just about as classic as it gets. Hello Harry is pretty much a household name on the Coast, and is well on the way to becoming Metropolist’s second home. And the salted caramel shakes are off the hook. Just sayin’.
Cheese Subscription | Cheese Therapy
Want to enjoy the awesomeness of Bleu d’Auvergne without getting out of your trackies? Do you keep a stash of Gruyere on hand always? Have you experienced the horror of opening your fridge and realising that your flatmate has scoffed the last of your Pont l’eveque? Well, Cheese Therapy has you covered. These guys are serious about cheese and have put together deals that will keep just about any fromage freak happy. Sign on up and you’ll nab almost a kilo of cheeses from around the world, delivered straight to your door. Nom nom nom.
Croque Madame | Elliotts Bistro
We have all the heart eyes in the world for Elliotts Bistro’s Croque Madame. Made on sourdough with ham, mozzarella, tomato relish, and a cheesy Parmesan béchamel, then topped with a fried egg, this brekkie powerhouse is not your average toastie. Nuh-uh!
