This little secret is becoming a not so secret, packed with locals and B&E enthusiasts come the weekend.
Yang & Co
Yang’s Malaysian Food Truck has recently parked up permanently at Yang & Co in Castlecrag. Chef and owner Alexander Wong has taken his favourite ‘Australian Asian’ foods from his childhood and pairs these with seasonal, local ingredients and an interesting wine list to match. But don’t worry, the food truck fave Singapore chilli soft-shell crab is still on the menu, sitting next to a tea smoked duck with roti or a poached Queensland prawn and corn wonton with ramen broth and onsen egg.

Lisa has been working in the industry, both internationally and locally, for over 10 years, so she knows her stuff. Other services include facials, waxing and mani/pedi treatments.
Joe Black X
Joe Black X is for those on the go. Which is perfect because you won’t find any seating here. But what you will find is an exceptional coffee roasted to excellence by Toby’s Estate – can you taste the subtle hint of caramel? And if you’re in a rush and feeling peckish, everything is prepared onsite to order (and quickly). Peering up at the menu, which is written up on butcher’s paper on the wall, you could start your day with a warm brekkie, consisting of Joe Black X’s house-baked muesli or pop by for roast chicken salad boxes come lunchtime.
Rainbow Sushi
Rainbow Sushi is a classic joint with a menu full of sushi, sashimi and all things Japanesey. They have Rainbow specials that include sushi rolls and Rainbow ‘ships’ and if you don’t know what they are, then try one – you might be pleasantly surprised. This little gem can be found in Mona Vale, so if you find yourself in the area check these guys out. We promise it’ll be worth your while.

Sonoma continues to expand their empire, with six stores across Sydney now, but the Alexandria store set in a restored warehouse remains our favourite.
New Shanghai Workshop
New Shanghai has finally answered all of our dumpling-related prayers with their latest offering, the New Shanghai Workshop store in Ashfield. It has never been easier to gorge on incredible dumpling goodness in the comfort of your own pyjamas, with their store stocking all of your Chinese favourites, including their house-made noodles and beef and coriander dumplings, available fresh or frozen. Eating out is overrated anyway, right?
VN Streetfoods
VN Streetfoods is a Vietnamese street food style restaurant in Marrickville and they’ve got everything you would expect from a traditional Vietnamese restaurant and more! Their menu is extensive, so be prepared to make some tough choices, but we don’t think you could really make a bad choice here when there's this much deliciousness involved.
Folonomo
Aptly named, Folonoma comes from the expression ‘for love not money’ and since they donate 100% of their profits to not-for-profit organisations, they are definitely living up to their name.
Sloppy Tee’s
With the ethos ‘Slow Food – Fast,’ Sloppy Tee’s is exactly what you would expect from a street food joint by the beach, but with a gourmet edge. Coffee is fair trade and organic, sourced by Toby’s Estate, eggs are free range and the onsite bakehouse is pumping out mouthwatering pastries every day.
Three Rosettas Espresso
As the name suggests, Sydney cafe, Three Rosettas pride themselves on a lovingly crafted coffee that tastes as good as the latte art looks. Located in Drummoyne, this family run business aims to treat their customers to the finer things in life through impeccably brewed coffee by Sensory Lab, great food and good company. You can settle in for smashed avo on toast, or grab a filtered coffee and scroll on the run to start your morning the right way.
Jardin St James
Jardin St James oozes the perfect amount of Parisian effortlessness sans a beret-clad man with a striped shirt and a baguette. Pair this with their coffee know how and that's your midweek brekkie/lunch sorted.

Cali Press has spread their cold-pressed wings beyond Sydney’s East and are now serving up their fresh and organic juices in Surry Hills. Alongside their trademark selection of cold-pressed juices and superfood smoothies they have expanded their menu to include a new salad bar so you can mix and match your favourites and soak up those chilled So-Cal vibes with their courtyard seating. For those of us who require an extra little jolt in the morning, there is AllPress Espresso coffee available all day long.
The Annandale Hotel
The guys at the Annandale Hotel know what’s up… They’re giving you the opportunity to bring along your best friend (your dog, clearly) every Thursday night for a dog raffle! You can win your dog a delectable supply of canned dog food or raw meat – yum – or just spend some quality time with your pup.
Nutorious
We’re pretty nuts for QVB’s Nutorious, which specialise in all things, you guessed it, NUTS! They hand roast their nuts in small batches and aim to keep the sugar content as low as possible. Also famous for their freshly made oat choc-chip cookies and donuts in the morning, this café makes for the perfect breakfast sitch, teamed expertly with a good cup of joe.
Petal Met Sugar
As a creative workshop space Petal Met Sugar is the creation of two friends that combined their individual passions for floristry and baking. Located on the ground floor of the Luxe retail building, the workshop features a large wooden table for floristry work and an open kitchen where customers can view the creation of sweet treats.
Knight’s Coffee & Tea Co.
Great coffee goes beyond a great barista and café, which is just a bonus at Knight’s Coffee & Tea Co. in Haymarket. Owner Jake Knight combines passion and understanding to deliver sublime coffee everytime, a credit to his training and experience from Toby’s Estate.
Store Espresso
Formerly a hardware store, Store Espresso prides itself on organic produce, great coffee and modern Mediterranean meets Italian cuisine. With a large communal table for seating on the left of the café, and a few tables outside your best bet to ensure a spot is to grab a blanket from the chest, head across to the park and set up camp ready for people and puppy watching.
Lemonia Café
When life gives you lemon, take yourself down to Lemonia café and treat yourself to a well-deserved Mediterranean feed. The Annandale café with its bright yellow façade is named after the Rodakis brothers’ (the owners) grandmother. The repurposed the two bedroom cottage into a hub for great food and blissful drink with their ‘at home’ ambiance.
Oski
Oski is a pretty new café that has shown up in Kirribili and we think their Swedish cinnamon buns are something you need in your life. The Scandinavian Café is covering off all of the breakfast classics like porridge (with cinnamon, banana and honey) and smashed avo on toast, so you can basically choose how adventurous you’re feeling when you arrive.
Palm Beach Shoes
Palm Beach shoes is located on Oxford Street, Paddington - one of the best spots in Sydney for high-end shopping. However, this little boutique sells all types of shoes at a range of varying prices, meaning you don’t need the big bucks to shop here.
Andrew McDonald
A.McDonald has been making bespoke shoes in Sydney since 1990. Moving to the Strand Arcade in 2013, they've aligned themselves with Australia’s leading boutique retailers and craftspeople and are certainly stepping up to the mark.

The guys behind Salmon & Bear in Zetland have expanded to the Inner West and are bringing their delicious seafood with them. This isn't your standard fish and chip shop – all the seafood is cooked over charcoal in the Mibrasa oven to give it that unique Salmon & Bear taste.
NU 56
Michelin trained Chef Jacopo Martelossi, has teamed up with Gina di Brita from Numero Uno Specialty Coffee Roasters to bring modern regional Italian fare to both breakfast and lunch with new café; Nu 56. Their ethos is to showcase ethically sourced, artfully roasted beans, served with modern dishes at a reasonable price.
Indian Home Diner
Never judge a book by its cover. This little gem, Indian Home Diner, is tucked in amongst the shops on Oxford Street and is full of mouthwatering options. Grab a chicken tikka kebab and a couple of veggie samosas. You’ll find us here at peak time, 11pm. Its the perfect place for a late night snack, especially after a vino or two and trust us when we tell you that the line is worth it.
The Precinct By Toby’s Estate
The Precinct by Toby’s Estate has found their new home in the lobby of Tower Three at Barangaroo, quickly becoming one of their flagship stores. Here, you can pick your daily brew made with the Toby’s Estate signature single origin Woolloomooloo blend and choose a quick meal from their breakfast and lunch menu. The dishes are inventive, with combos like coffee and cracked pepper sausages, which sounds just disgusting enough to be delicious. Settle in, or grab something to go on the way to the office–the choice is yours.
Cairo Takeaway
It’s a well known fact that even the meatiest of meat eaters love a good falafel. Hesham El Masry (of Summer Hill’s Plunge No.46) is the brains behind new Egyptian eatery, Cairo Takeaway on Enmore Road. He’s serving up the food that he grew up with and you’ll find falafel rolls, meat plates (vegetarian and meat) and slow cooked breakfast fava beans on the menu.
Spring Court
Spring Court is to France what Converse is to America. Based in Paris and still run by the same family that started it back in 1936, Spring Court have sold over 26 million sneakers, and at least one of those pairs should be yours. The quintessential tennis shoe, they’re the perfect casual and comfy shoe for both guys and gals. Plus, John Lennon and Yoko Ono wore matching ones on their wedding day so... they're legendary.
Porterhouse Bar and Grill
Portherhouse Bar and Grill is a steakhouse where chunky fries and $5 beers reign supreme. As the name suggests Porterhouse is carnivore heaven, and the sweet BBQ sauce that’s slathered over everything from baby back ribs to roasted chicken is exactly what you would want from a sticky sauce. Their steaks are top notch and the selection of sides will keep you in good supply of healthy sautéed greens and loaded fries, depending on your mood. So will it be, medium or rare?
Brick Lane Espresso
Brick Lane Espresso in West Pymble is a hidden gem in Phillip Mall, offering an interesting combination of food with an Italian touch and great coffee too. They are one of the very few cafes in Sydney that are open every day of the week for breakfast and lunch, meaning helloooooo Sunday brunch!
Tonic Lane
Café by day, gin bar by night, Lain Tapsall (ex- Bourke Street Bakery) and Julian Brenchley (of Channel 9’s The Block) have developed the perfect co-creation. With things like Polenta Porrij and 12-hour slow cooked Kickin Wings on the menu alongside a vast selection of all Australian gin and accompanying tonics, there’s more than enough reason to visit the Neutral Bay venue. Maybe even take that day date right on into the night…
