If you read The Urban List you know how obsessed we are with finding great new openings, new menus, new products, as well as chatting to chefs and discovering events that we know you'll love. And, to keep you in the know—just in case you missed it—here's the foodie news that should be on your radar this week.

Little Bird Unbakery Plant-Based Challenge

Kick any preconceptions of vegetarian food to the curb this month at Little Bird Unbakery. Their plant-based challenge happens throughout the month of October, where they've challenged four of Auckland's top chefs—Al Brown, Ben Bayly, Thomas Hishon and Emma Galloway—to each create a dish that will be served for one week. The cafe is also calling on the public to celebrate World Vegetarian Month by creating their own dish and posting it to Instagram with the hashtag #plantbasedchallengenz—one person will win prizes of up to $5000, including return flights to Auckland, two nights at The Boatshed, an electric car to drive around in as well as loads of Little Bird treats. 

WOOP Balance

If you're on the food delivery trend, then check out WOOP's new Balance packs. Instead of jumping on the latest diet trend it is, literally, all about balance. Based on Mediterranean cuisine, each meal starts with veges and then healthy and delicious protein and carbs are added. Easy to prepare and delicous to eat, each recipe is designed by nutrition expert Niki Bezzant. Better yet, they're made to be ready in 20 minutes. 

Burgers Beer & Brioche

Head along to the Grey Lynn Project on Thursday 18 October for an evening of burgers, beer and brioche! Hosted by the Grey Lynn Business Association and held at the library hall, chow down on mouth-watering burgers from Tiger Burger, vegan brioch from Tart and wash it all down with beer from the legends at Hallertau. Running from 6-10pm, it costs $25 and includes entertainment from musician Matthew Crawley. For more info, click here. 

Little Han

The modern Korean restaurant, Han in Parnell have finally kicked off their pop-up restaurant, Little Han. For the month of October, Han will be offering a more casual experience every Tuesday, serving dishes such as Korean fried chicken and beef galbi short rib tacos. Sour Patch Tricksters

Our favourite sour lollies, Sour Patch are playing games with us with their new Trickster range. Don’t be fooled by the colours of these lollies, because while there are only three different colours, they actually have six different flavours. Take your pick and see if you can match it to any of the flavours which include lemon, cola, apple, raspberry, blackcurrant or orange. Sour Patch Tricksters are available to purchase in local supermarkets.

Behemoth Brewing Company Spring Range

Behemoth Brewing Company is renowned for their ability to put a crazy amount of creativity in a can and their new spring range is no exception. Procrastination Pale Ale is for the fruity lovers with tropical notes of lemon candy and pineapple. If you want something a little more potent, the Underarm Trans-Tasman IPA is the one for you, with bitter notes of pine and passionfruit. Kind of a Big Deal Trans-Tasman IPA is for those who want the real deal and solid bitterness. Crack open a can say cheers to the new season.

Pic’s Really Good Boysenberry Jelly

New Zealand’s iconic peanut butter maker Pic’s are seriously mixing things up with their most recent drop. Pic’s Really Good Boysenberry Jelly is just what we needed to create the ultimate P&J sammie and we could not be more excited. Just like their other products, Pic’s have kept their ingredient list for this boysenberry jelly as clean and short as possible with just four ingredients—boysenberry puree, cane sugar, pectin and lemon juice. Pic’s Really Good Boysenberry Jelly will be available in supermarkets from mid-October.
