5 Things You Should Be Doing On The Coast This Weekend

Yep, we know it’s Wednesday and that you’re probs flipping out that January is almost in the rear-vision mirror (WTAF). And that’s without us pushing you to think a few days ahead to the weekend.

BUT, if you’re anything like us, then you like to know what the forecast is for the Coast’s best weekend shenanigans. That way, you can pick your faves, put the call out to your mates with plenty of notice, and hit up as many awesome events as you want.

Just ‘cause we’re not a city, doesn’t mean we’re short of things to do on the Sunshine Coast. Here’s how this weekend is unfolding…

Lamkin Lane Live | January 29

Hangin’ out on the corner of Lamkin Lane and Village Way, Lamkin Lane Live is hitting Caloundra for the second time in its short yet epic history. Held from 5pm to 10pm on Friday, it’s the perfect spot to rock up after work to gorge on street food from the Coast’s best food trucks, browse artworks at the pop-up gallery, and listen to some live tunes from local musicians. Part of the Paisley Park Project and the revitalisation of Clown Town, we’re lovin’ this monthly event’s laneway vibe. P.s. There’s a $2 donation at the entry, so keep your gold nuggets handy.

Friday Nights At Little Miss Saine | January 29

So as far as little miss’s go, we’re pretty serious about Little Miss Saine. Especially come Friday nights, when this normally daytime-only café holds open its doors a little longer to serve up dinner and live music. With a refreshed menu shared each week—think: curries, burgers, and soft shell tacos with succulent slow cooked beef—we can’t go past the Share Board laden with house made dips, cured meats, cheese, organic sauerkraut and crunchy ciabatta for the dipping-slash-piling foundation. This week, local lad Shannon Sol will be setting the relaxed ambience with his saltwater folk sounds.

Noosa Summer Swim | January 30

Sure, it’s fun to cheer on sporty peeps on the tele while chillin’ in your trackies at home, but this weekend there’s a chance for you to put those lungs to the test IRL. The Noosa Summer Swim is a-happening this Saturday and if you think you can sahhhh easily knock over the 1km, 2km, or 3km swim, how ‘bout you put your money where your mouth is and grab a late entry ticket on the day. There’s two wave start groups for swimmers—Elite and Mates Wave—so you can make the call as to whether it’s all about the prize money or just whacking your PB out of the water. More of a land-based creature? Stay on the sand and “whoop” from the shore. We won’t judge.

Small Cinema | January 30

Wanna catch a film that won’t involve special effects, Leonardo DiCaprio, or that stems from a ridiculously over-the-top budget? Chasing something that has meaning but can be enjoyed with a cruisy crowd with a side of live music? Then make sure you say “NO” to all other offers for this Saturday night and get to Tidal Magazine’s Small Cinema event. Hosted at the uber-cool Share Space in Maroochydore, seven short films will be shown along with plenty of free popcorn and beers. This is THE arty fix to end your first month of 2016. Creatives, be here!

Saltwater Sundays | January 31

Surely you’ve heard of the boat taking Noosa River by storm—the stunningly refurbished MV Catalina. Other than the super chic design and primo cocktails that we just want to guzzle erryday, these guys are making waves, literally, with their Saltwater Sundays. Having only set sail for the first time a month ago, an afternoon on Catalina is already proving to be one of the best things to do on the Sunshine Coast. For sensational sunset views, a fun crowd and very tasty tipples, nab your $15 ticket before the weekend hits. Spots are limited, making it all the more exclusive.
